English: Kerala (en:Malayalam language: കേരളം?; Kēraḷaṁ) is an Indian state located in south western India. Neighbouring states include Karnataka to the north and Tamil Nadu to the south and east; to the west is the Arabian sea. Major cities include the state capital Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kochi (Cochin), and Kozhikode (Calicut). The principal spoken language is Malayalam.

A houseboat in the backwaters. Originally they were (about 2 decades back) used as carrier of goods - mainly the agricultural produce like rice, coconut and the industrial goods like clay, coir and tiles. Currently they are re modified as floating houses, a main attraction in the Kerala tourism.
