Hi, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to convert the text in this SVG to paths, as it makes it a lot more annoying to edit. What I usually do as a workaround is make a PNG rasterized version with Inkscape, in this case Image:SensorSizes.png, and explicitly link between them on the summary page. --en:User:Moxfyre 05:40, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- The reason I do it that way is so that the most up-to-date SVG version is easily available to start editing from in order to create the next version. Otherwise, if you convert the text to paths, anyone who wants to update the SVG has to re-create the text, which is a pain... it's basically like redrawing a bitmap as an SVG over again. I wish MediaWiki used Inkscape as its renderer :-( Moxfyre 05:45, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- I see. At least the one with text is still there as an older version, right? Isn't an SVG preferred to PNG in general? Dicklyon 06:07, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
colorVision.jpg
editHello!
The image was posted on this site: http://www.bg.ic.ac.uk/research/vision/Hiroshi/ and I copied the reference. I am not familiar with any explicit copyright issues since I do not own the book, but since the image was found on the web with cited reference I concluded it is most likely that the image is free to distribute with reference citations..
What do you think is not correct, the image itself or the reference/source? I think this image is more likely to be correct than the current one as it shows the secondary peak which explains why we see violet as a mix of blue and red. The images here http://notexactlyrocketscience.wordpress.com/2007/03/29/human-cone-cell-lets-mice-see-in-new-colours/ and here http://www.psych.ndsu.nodak.edu/mccourt/Psy460/Color%20Vision/Color%20Vision.html also show a tendency of red and green cone cells towards a secondary peak. I suppose you could exchange this image for the one on the last page, as it is clear who the author is, although it is of lesser quality as it is missing the part of the red/green response curve below 400nm where the actual peak lies.
I suppose you or I should contact Mr. Hiroshi Momiji from the aforementioned page to clear that out, as I took the image and the information about it from his page.
Efodix (talk) 10:56, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- So you're not in a position to grant copyright license, since you're not the copyright owner; I removed that tag. Also, the description "The relations between relative absorbance and wavelength calculated for S, M and L cones in humans" makes little sense and doesn't begin to explain what these curves were intended to show. Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:50, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

You did a good job with lightening the shadow in this image without washing out the image. I see what you mean about the over-sharpened look of the original, but think you may have gone a little overboard with the amount of blurring. editInterestingly, the thumbnail shows the straightened cropped image, but if you click through to the image on commons it shows the old one distorted to the new size. to your userpage!Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 in the United States during the month of October! The United States contest saw over 1,700 people contribute over 11,000 great photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the United States and its territories. In addition to National Register of Historic Places sites, we welcomed uploads of sites designated by state- and local-level historical institutions and societies. Hundreds of these photos are already being used to illustrate Wikipedia articles!
We're excited to announce that our national judging process has concluded, and that we have selected the winners of Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 in the United States! We were amazed by all of the uploads, and regret having to narrow it down to just 10. That being said – congratulations to our national winners and their amazing shots! Our 10 winners will be sent to the international Wiki Loves Monuments jury, who will then select the winners of the international contest. If you're interested in seeing the winners of the other various national contests as they are announced, you may do so at Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 winners.
Finally, we have also created a feedback form for all participants in the United States to fill out. The survey is optional and anonymous, and only takes a minute or two – we hope to use the feedback to organize better events in the future!
Once again, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2016, and we hope to see you again for future Commons photography events! ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 06:29, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

to your userpage!September 30th is the last day to upload photos for Wiki Loves Monuments! We're thrilled that the United States has almost reached 4,000 contributions so far this year. Of these images, ~370 (~9%) have already been used to help illustrate Wikipedia articles and pages on other wiki projects, which is fantastic.
If you've already made a photo contribution this year, thanks so much! If you have any last-minute photos of U.S. historical sites to upload and enter into the contest, today's the day to do it. Check out the United States event page for more information. Judging will take place throughout the month of October, after which the top-ten national finalists will be announced in early November.
If you've traveled and taken photos of monuments in non-US countries, you can see if those countries are also participating here.

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Cherry Point WA map.png
editThis file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Cherry Point WA map.png, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)
editIn other languages (translate this)

|
Thank you for uploading some images!
Did you know that Wikimedia Commons recommends the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format for certain types of images? Scalable Vector Graphics are designed to look appropriate at any scale, and SVG images are easier to modify and translate, helping Wikimedia to distribute knowledge to all of the world. A lot of modern programs support SVG export. If you encountered problems or have questions, don't hesitate to ask me, a member of the Graphic Lab, or the Graphics village pump. Uploading images in SVG format isn't mandatory, but it would help. (To avoid any misunderstandings, please don't just put raster images into an SVG container as embedded raster.) Thanks, and happy editing!

editHello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. I don't think this is a good idea, because the files form a complete tarot set (minus four lost cards). Hopefully the colors of the originals are represented consistently across cards as they got published in facsimile then scanned. – b_jonas 12:20, 30 January 2024 (UTC) – b_jonas 12:20, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- I adjusted most of the cards in that deck, trying to get more consistent and better color. The scans were awful, probably not true to the actual cards. Dicklyon (talk) 16:55, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
