Hello Haplochromis,
About File:Nez.de.nuit.jpg, you said here that it was a Macroscelididae (in the order Macroscelidea).
But the fr:Rhinogrades text says that Rhinogrades is a fictive animal.
Could you help me solve this (Looks like a joke ;-))?

Aphanopus

edit

Hello Haplochromis, are you sure this fish is an Aphanopus? It doesn't look at all like one. Look at Category:Aphanopus carbo, they are very, very different than this one. They are long, serpent-like fish with big teeth and big eyes who live at more than 1000 meters deep in the ocean, nothing like this specimen.-- Darwin Ahoy! 04:02, 29 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Im not sure, but i think this is a Cutlassfish (Trichiuridae), therefore i change the Category.--Haplochromis (talk) 11:30, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
If you say it's a Trichiuridae, and as it is being sold in our fish marked, then it probably is a Lepidopus caudatus, the white (and less valuable) version of Aphanopus carbo. What do you think? -- Darwin Ahoy! 22:56, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hallo all, They're not Trichiuridae at all but probably Scombridae, maybe Acanthocybium solandri. --Etrusko25 (talk) 00:32, 31 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
I agree, it's much more like a tuna than an Aphanopus. Acanthocybium solandri seems to be somewhat rare here, I was wondering if this could be "voador" ("flying tuna"), which was my first suspect, though it seems somewhat small to be that.-- Darwin Ahoy! 23:48, 31 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Pterois andover, category and images

aren't Pterois andover? Have you a source? Because I recognized this specie in this source and this for a general view of Pterois species (and for a comparison). Let me know, Ciao :) --Marrabbio2 (talk) 21:30, 3 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

My source is: G. R. Allen & Erdmann: (23 January 2008). "Pterois andover, a new species of scorpionfish (Pisces: Scorpaenidae) from Indonesia and Papua New Guinea". aqua, International Journal of Ichthyology 13 (3-4): 137.

Flamingos

edit

Hi Haplochromis - thought I'd best let you know, File:Phoenicopterus chilensis -Tavares, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil -flying-8.jpg that you'd reidentified as Phoenicopterus ruber, are definitely Phoenicopterus chilensis as originally identified - note the bill pattern, and the grey lower legs with red feet and ankle joint, both characteristic of P. chilensis. So evidently, P. chilensis does occur in southern Brazil :-) (which P. ruber doesn't, except rarely in the far north!). Hope this helps! - MPF (talk) 23:22, 14 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

About the fish

edit

Hi,

Could this File:Hal - Aulonocara baenschi 1.jpg be Category:Neolamprologus brichardi? Regards. DenesFeri (talk) 08:33, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

It is Category:Neolamprologus pulcher because Neolamprologus brichardi is a synonym to Neolamprologus pulcher.

Regards,--Haplochromis (talk) 08:38, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

So, you don't really know? On base of this two Neolamprologus brichardi (Poll, 1974) FishBase and Neolamprologus pulcher (Trewavas & Poll, 1952) FishBase I vote for N. brichardi. The aquarium was quite small. DenesFeri (talk) 09:18, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Neolamprologus brichardi and Neolamprologus pulcher are the same fish, the valid name ist Neolamprologus pulcher.--Haplochromis (talk) 09:47, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

OHH! Thank you! Sorry I didn't understand it for the first time. :) Cheers. DenesFeri (talk) 10:36, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

One more think: If the 2 names belong to the same fish, than why FishBase treats them as 2 separated species? And ich one has its own synonyms. DenesFeri (talk) 15:23, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Fishbase is not always up to date, in the Catalog of Fishes, witch makes an update every Month, you can see that Neolamprologus brichardi ist synonym to Neolamprologus pulcher. --Haplochromis (talk) 15:27, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

OK; Thank you again! DenesFeri (talk) 08:54, 16 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello! You have uploaded several images by Klaus Rudloff from BioLib.cz (e.g. File:Champsochromis caeruleus2.jpg, File:Aulonocara nyassae A.jpg, File:Anomalochromis thomasi B.jpg), but the original sources (i.e. [1], [2], [3]) all seem to state "Copyright - All rights reserved. The resized photographs can be freely used on any pages for non commercial, scientific and educational purposes, if you let me know about it first." This non-commercial restriction seems to be incompatible with COM:Licensing. Secondly, while User:Achim Raschka/Vorlage Klaus Rudloff gives a different license, it is currently unclear whether this template is legitimate: Unless Achim Raschka is a legal representative or copyright holder of Klaus Rudloff's works, they cannot determine Rudloff's license (and I have no idea why it mentions "Raimond Spekking"). I realize you are not the creator of this custom license template, but unless evidence can be found that Rudloff published his works with a free license allowing any use (including commercial), the images may be deleted. Cheers, --Animalparty (talk) 21:13, 21 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:The zoology of the voyage of H.M.S. Beagle (Fish. Pl. 18) BHL14063620 Acanthoclinus2.jpg. Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2023 voting is open!

edit

2022 Picture of the Year: Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) and Gadwall (Mareca strepera) in Nepal.

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Hi Haplochromis :-), my idea was to add this file to the Aetomylaeus bovinus page I am creating on the French Wikipédia but I think this picture will be really better after a treatment on White Balance. I did it on my computer and colors look like more natural, currently there is a greenish tone. I can't input a new version, maybe you can do it... or accept I add a new file with another name. Thanks for your comments. Have a nice day. Best regards Givet (talk) 16:40, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
