Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and or licensing of this particular file. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --- Thanks for pointing out that I'd forgotten the license. Silly me! It's fixed now.
- By the way, since I'll bet you use the same message often, I suggest changing this sentence: "Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above?" I think it would be better English with either "the page linked to above" (because you link to a page) or just "the page linked above". —JerryFriedman 00:28, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you! --Panther 06:29, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Hi, I rotated this image for you. WjBscribe 12:26, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- Nothing special. You can reupload a corrected file to the same name if you make a mistake. So all I did was save the image, rotate it in an image program on my computer (I think most allow you to do that) and then reuploaded it. WjBscribe 14:51, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Apple Preview
editHi Jerry,
I think I've found the problem - Apple Preview is indeed not really rotating images. From [1]:
Some of my images don't keep the vertical or orizontal orientation when displayed in Slide Show. Some applications (for example Apple Preview) doesn't really rotate images but, instead they use a virtual rotation to preserve image quality. This mean, that when they apply a rotation, that image is not really modified and Slide Show simply show it as it is. Virtual rotation is an EXIF parameter and you can see it in Slide Show looking at the EXIF info. Please be sure that the images are really rotate using an image editor (for example Photoshop) before to use it in Slide Show.
Probably when you use all mac stuff, it all follows the same as Apple Preview and uses the EXIF info, so it all appears fine, but MediaWiki obviously doesn't.

Re: location of curlew photo
editHello Jerry, thanks for your help. The problem with the curlew photo is that I made this picture in a zoo, so I can`t say where this bird actually comes from. The only thing I can tell you is that it was in an open air part of the Stuttgart zoo in summer. I know that might not be too helpfull. On a identification page on the German wikipedia they wrote that it is most likely a Numenius phaeopus....but they were not really sure. Would you agree with that? --AngMoKio 21:23, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Olive Thrush picture
editI noted on your image Image:Turdus olivaceus1.jpg that you hoped someone would upload a better photo. I have just transferred one from Flickr which is quite good: Image:Olive Thrush (Turdus olivaceus) on lawn.jpg. It doesn't show the lighter colouration on the front of the bird (perhaps a case of sexual dimorphism?) though. Richard001 (talk) 00:44, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Image:Goodyera repens, Herrick Twp.jpg
editI agree with you that this is not G. repens, but I can't seem to be able to differentiate it from G. tesselata, the other native Goodyera orchid in Ontario (giant / checkered). In the meantime, I have changed the info to show that it is G. oblongifolia, which it probably is. Fungus Guy (talk) 22:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

File tagging File:Prairie falcon in hand.JPG
editThis media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Prairie falcon in hand.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Prairie falcon in hand.JPG ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:59, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Please help replace this outdated license
editHello!
Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.
The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

Files you uploaded may be deleted
editThe files listed below, which you uploaded, have been tagged OTRS pending for more than 30 days. This tag indicates that an email setting out permission to use the file was sent to the OTRS team. Unfortunately, we cannot find any record that such an email has been received, and accordingly the file remains without permission. Unless the OTRS team receives evidence that permission has been granted within 15 days of today's date, the file will be deleted. If you have not sent the permission, please send it to "permissions-commons wikimedia.org" now. Please quote the file name in your email. If you have, please leave a message at the OTRS noticeboard, quoting the file name, so that a volunteer can follow this up. Alternatively, you can contact an OTRS volunteer directly. Please note that this message is being left by an automated bot, whose operator is not an OTRS volunteer, therefore please do not send this information to me, as it will not save your images from deletion. Copyright status: File:Castilleja integra habitus yellow flowers.jpg
editThis media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Castilleja integra habitus yellow flowers.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
