Brinton Averil Smith (born 1969, in Royal Oak, Michigan) is an American cellist. Smith has been the principal cellist of the Houston Symphony since 2005 and is a faculty member of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and the Aspen Music Festival, as well as being a frequent guest soloist and chamber musician. Smith gave the first professional performance of Castelnuovo-Tedesco's cello concerto, Op. 72 in over 80 years, and the live performance was released on the Naxos label in June 2018.
