- John Mansfield Brumby AO (born 21 April 1953) is the current Chancellor of La Trobe University and former Victorian Labor Party politician who was Premier of Victoria from 2007 to 2010. He became leader of the Victorian Labor Party and premier after the resignation of Steve Bracks. He also served as the Minister for Veterans' Affairs and the Minister for Multicultural Affairs. He contested his first election as premier at the November 2010 Victorian state election. His government was defeated by the Liberal/National Coalition led by Ted Baillieu. Brumby resigned as Labor leader after the election, on 30 November, to be replaced by Daniel Andrews. Within weeks of this leadership change, Brumby left parliament, with a Broadmeadows by-election taking place on 19 February 2011. Brumby currently is the national president of the Australia China Business Council (ACBC). (en)

Ukończył studia licencjackie w zakresie ekonomii na University of Melbourne, a następnie uzyskał magisterium z pedagogiki. W latach 1976-1979 pracował jako nauczyciel w szkole średniej, a następnie został etatowym działaczem jednego z nauczycielskich związków zawodowych. Podjął także działalność polityczną w ALP. W 1983 został wybrany do federalnej Izby Reprezentantów, w której zasiadał przez siedem lat. Po przegranych wyborach z 1990 pracował jako konsultant polityczny, a następnie był szefem gabinetu politycznego ministra zasobów naturalnych i turystyki. W 1993 został wybrany do Rady Legislacyjnej swego rodzinnego stanu Wiktoria. Po kilku miesiącach przeniósł się do izby niższej, Zgromadzenia Ustawodawczego, i objął funkcję stanowego lidera opozycji. W 1999 zrezygnował z tej funkcji na rzecz , pod którego wodzą ALP wygrała jeszcze w tym samym roku wybory. Brumby wszedł do kierowanego przez Bracksa rządu stanowego, gdzie początkowo odpowiadał za resort rozwoju regionalnego, a od 2000 był skarbnikiem (ministrem finansów).
