- The Russian Chapel in Darmstadt, formally, the St. Mary Magdalene Chapel, is a historic Russian Orthodox church at Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, Germany. The Russian revival style church with gold Onion domes was built between 1897–1899 by the architect Leon Benois, and used as a private chapel by the last Emperor of Russia, Nicholas II, whose wife Alexandra was born in Darmstadt. It is named in honor of the patron saint of Nicholas II's mother. It was built of Russian stone and, as some people claim, built on soil from Russia brought to Darmstadt by train, and used during their lifetimes by the Russian Imperial family and court during regular visits to the Empress's childhood home and to her family. - La chapelle Sainte-Marie-Madeleine est une chapelle orthodoxe russe située dans le parc de Mathildenhöhe à Darmstadt, dans le Land de Hesse. Elle fut construite de 1897 à 1899 par Léon Benois, célèbre architecte pétersbourgeois et grand-père de Peter Ustinov, dans un style néo-russe, inspiré du XVIe siècle, et Art nouveau. Elle fut construite à la demande de l'empereur Nicolas II de Russie qui, lorsqu'il rendait visite à sa belle-famille dans la ville natale de son épouse Alexandra, n'avait pas de lieu de culte orthodoxe pour sa propre famille. Elle fut édifiée grâce à un don personnel de l'empereur de 400 000 marks. Elle a été restaurée entre 2004 et 2008. Les habitations et les ateliers groupés près de la chapelle russe formaient en 1901 le centre de l'exposition « Un document de l'art allemand ». (fr)

Ispirata allo stile neorusso, con le sue cupole a cipolla, fu costruita tra il 1897 ed il 1899 dall'architetto , e usata come cappella privata dall'ultimo zar di Russia, Nicola II, la cui consorte Aleksandra era nata a Darmstadt (con il titolo di Alice d'Assia e del Reno). Fu intitolata alla santa patrona della madre dello zar Nicola. Per la sua edificazione è stata usata pietra russa, e — secondo una diceria popolare — poggerebbe su terreno trasportato appositamente in treno dalla Russia. È stata adoperata costantemente dalla famiglia reale russa in occasione delle frequenti visite alla famiglia d'origine della zarina.
