- The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (H.R. 6256) is a United States federal law that would change U.S. policy on China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR, or Xinjiang) with the goal of ensuring that American entities are not funding forced labor among ethnic minorities in the region. The bill was first introduced in the 116th Congress and on September 22, 2020, the bill passed the House by 406–3 vote. The three no votes were cast by Justin Amash, Warren Davidson, and Thomas Massie. The bill died in committee in the Senate. The bill was reintroduced in the 117th Congress (S. 65) and unanimously passed the Senate on July 14, 2021. On December 8, 2021, a similar bill (H.R. 1155) passed the House by a 428–1 vote. Thomas Massie was the sole no vote. A revised version (H.R. 6256) that eliminated differences between the House and Senate bills passed the House on December 14, 2021, and the Senate on December 16, 2021. It was signed into law by President Joe Biden on December 23, 2021. (en)
(zh)
