Church of Santa Maria Assunta
  • Church of Santa Maria Assunta, Via Nazionale, +39 085 8990153. Built in the 1870s, when the population of the new settlement had begun to grow, it was dedicated to Santa Filomena. When in the 1960s the Congregation of Rites removed the saint from the calendar, Roseto replaced the church's title, dedicating it to Maria Assunta, who also became the new patroness of the city. Inside it preserves a valuable altar in polychrome wood, with statues of saints and prophets. In its sacristy there is a plaque, which commemorates the birth of Roseto (May 22, 1860), by the clergy of the Church, who divided into lots and ceded the marina of which it was owner in emphyteusis. Noteworthy is the bell tower belonging to the church of S. Antimo, linked to a legend that attributes its construction to Pope Sixtus V.
  • Civic Art Collection, Villa Comunale. Works by the painter Pasquale Celommi (1851-1928) and the ceramist Pier Giuseppe di Blasio (1896-1964), among others.
  • There is an olive tree, believed to be 500 years old.
  • There is a barrel, kept in the cellar of Villa Mazzarosa De Vincenzi, which contains one thousand hectoliters of wine, considered the largest in Europe.

Roseto is one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Abruzzo coast and offers a stay full of entertainment and attractions, thanks to its beach and sea and modern hotel, recreational and sports facilities. Among the latter, the Sports Hall, the tennis courts (also indoor), the skating rink and the swimming pool.

In addition to seaside activities and water sports, Roseto excels in a competitive activity in which it has achieved national and international fame: basketball. The city team has operated since 1946 and in 1997 was promoted to B1, then to A2 to finally move to the top flight. The Palasport di Roseto can hold almost 5,000 spectators and is one of the largest indoor facilities in Abruzzo.

  • At the centre of the city is the Arena 4 Palme, on whose outdoor field basketball is played, the sport that made Roseto famous in the world, with the summer tournament, which began in the early 1950s.
