• Aliens leave a Monolith on Earth. It tinkers with the minds of Moon-Watcher's tribe.

200,000 BC

• Marak travel the lands in search of conquest. He leads his army to Jalessa's kingdom, where they unite under their courtship.

• Birth of Dimitri Moisevich.

• Birth of Heywood Floyd.

1969

• February 21: Birth of Frank Poole.

1970

• May 30: Birth of David Bowman.

1980

• Birth of Max Brailovsky.

1982

• Birth of Zenia Marchenko.

1986

• Birth of Paul Kreuger.

1992

• Sunday, January 12: HAL 9000 becomes operational in Urbana, Illinois, at the HAL Plant (the University of Illinois' Coordinated Science Laboratory, where the ILLIAC computers were built). (In the novel, it was in 1997.)

1999

• TMA-1 is excavated on the moon in the crater, Tycho.

2001

2001 begins the third millennium.

• The first successful voyage to the Jovian system (USA).
• Thursday, April 12: TMA-2 is discovered.
• Two astronauts discover ruins on an asteroid. One was killed by a creature, the other was transformed into a New Seed by a Monolith.
• Space station Liberty is hit by meteors. Everyone escaped except for Herbert Marik, who's taken by a Monolith to live out his life as the ruler of a magnificent kingdom.

The Discovery mission ends in 2001.

• Friday, June 13: Discovery is lost, and its crew is killed or missing.
• The USAA is dissolved and absorbed into the NCA, National Council of Astronautics.

2005

• Birth of Chris Floyd.

2006

• TMA-1 is transported to Earth. After intensive US study, it is installed in front of the UN building in NY, in 2006.

2010

• Heywood Floyd was asked in 2007, to join a Soviet led expedition to Discovery. Training is for four months, and the journey is two and a half years long.
• The second successful voyage to the Jovian system (Soviet).

• The Chinese spaceship Tsien arrives to Jupiter ahead of the Leonov. The Tsien lands on Europa to obtain water for fuel. The Chinese discover life on Europa, then the Tsien is destroyed.
• Jupiter implodes on itself and becomes a mini-sun, called Lucifer.

2015

• The Leonov arrives back to Earth.

2027

• Birth of Chris Floyd, Jr..

2028

• The first major expedition arrives to the moons of Galilei and builds a base on Ganymede.

2031

• The first man lands on Mercury.

2037

• Death of Chris Floyd. After orbiting the moons of Lucifer a fragment of the diamond core of the onetime Jupiter crashes on Europa creating Mount Zeus.

2040

• Astronaut and comic fan Harvey Norton is fatally injured by hostile aliens. As he was succumbing to death, a Monolith changed him into a New Seed.

2057

• Rolf van der Berg discovers that Mount Zeus is made of diamond.

2059

• Van der Berg tells his discovery to Paul Kreuger. The communication is eavesdropped on by a third party.

2061

• Heywood Floyd embarks on his second journey to the Jovian system.

Twenty-third century

• Construction of Star City.

2304

• An asteroid hits the Atlantic Ocean.

2513 - 2514

• TMA-0 is discovered and unearthed in Africa.

• A tragic expedition to Io.

• Birth of Indra Wallace.
