Opmerkings
At the beginning of the 17th century two shiploads of Chinese porcelains determined a shift in the ceramic language that would be adapted and translated throughout the whole of Europe. Occasional pieces of Chinese Ming blue-and-white wares had been seen but now it could be seen and handled in quantity some of the mystery evaporated and there was soon a desire to imitate. Dutch potters were soon striving to reproduce, sometimes naively, blue-and-white dishes of the 'Wan Li' style as well as the fineness, texture and decoration of the originals.
