Not to be confused with Angry Birds Islands, Angry Birds: Bird Island, or the unreleased game of the same name

Angry Birds Island, also titled Angry Birds Blast 2 and Angry Birds Blast Island (China-exclusive version was titled 愤怒的小鸟:梦幻岛 (Angry Birds Dream Island)[1]),was a free-to-play 3D tap-to-match game that was soft-launched in select countries and regions on February 1, 2018. The game was being developed by Mybo and was being published by Rovio Entertainment.

Around a similar time to when most of the Angry Birds games before Transformers got delisted from the App Store, Island's international release was canceled and its servers were shut down on June 26, 2019[2] to pursue with the Chinese release.[1]

History

The game was first discovered by many mobile gaming websites and their editors throughout the first few days of February 2018 as version 1.0.0 APK files and small and scarce amounts of news about the game were found throughout the internet. The game has since been in soft launch in select regions and territories such as Asia and many others. in July 2018 the game got a major change with a new story and landscape look due to the 1.1.0 update to the game. In April 2019 the game got updated to 1.1.2.

International Cancelation

In early Summer of 2019, Island's western release was canceled to focus on the Chinese release,[1] at a similar time to the infamous delisting of Angry Birds games released before Angry Birds Transformers. The game can still be played, but microtransactions have been turned off and advertisements are no longer active.

Gameplay

Angry Birds Island is a Tap-to-match game with gameplay similar to the original Angry Birds Blast! released in December 2016. There are varying puzzle levels that the player has to play through in order to continue fixing up existing objects on or adding new objects to a large 3-D HUB-like game world in which the player unlocks more and more of the areas that were previously restricted or closed off. The way the player does this is by playing through levels in order to obtain stars to complete various tasks. To obtain stars, the player must complete the level and achieve a high enough score to earn them whether it be 1, 2, or 3 stars depending on the objective(s), the level, the amount of taps, or moves, the player has left, and the player's score.

After completing each level, the player earns the amount of stars based on the level score, which can range from 1-3 stars, and they are added onto the player's total amount of stars. Once the player earns the necessary amount of stars needed to complete the required task, they can go into the task book given to the player in the tutorial, select the task they want to complete by pressing a confirm button with the required star amount, and the required number of stars will then be taken out of the total amount and will be deposited into the small bar under the task name.

After this has been confirmed, the game will complete the task for you whether it be cleaning up, rebuilding, taking down, or removing various damaged, destroyed, decayed, and/or overgrown objects or building or adding new objects. However, despite it being instantaneous during and a little after the tutorials, the object(s) the task is being performed on will start taking a certain amount of time starting at 30 seconds early on and slowly rising as the player progresses. During this time, the player can still play through levels to earn more stars for future tasks, but they cannot move onto a new task until the one that is being completed is finished. The amount of stars required to complete certain tasks can vary. Most of the time, it's 3, but some things only require 1 or 2 stars to complete depending on how big the job is and how long it takes.

Level Types

There are currently 4 different types of levels. These are also the same level types from the previous game. They include:

  • Collect Birds- Pop the required number of bird balloons to complete the level.
  • Defeat Then Collect Pigs - Pop the pigs by popping the balloons around them.
  • Collect Certain Objects - Collect that level's number of objects by bringing them to specific point(s) in the level.
  • Defeat Then Collect Balloon Pigs - Pop the amount of balloon pigs required to complete the level.

Currency units

Unlike the first Angry Birds Blast, there are three currencies in the game known as:

  • Blue Star Coins - Basic game currency earned after completing levels and certain amounts of tasks and used to purchase additional object types the player didn't previously choose when given the option to choose any one of three choices for free and purchase boosters before starting the level.
  • Gold Crown Coins - Used to purchase emergency items, such as in-game power-ups or extra moves when needed.
  • Gold Stars - Earned through completing levels and used to complete tas
