• Cytokines and prostaglandins in normal and preterm labour
• Anti-inflammatory therapeutic strategies involving inhibition of NF-kappaB for prevention of inflammation-associated preterm labour
• Role of activin and other members of the TGF-beta super-family as regulators of placental endocrine and immune function
• Cytokine-induced fetal membrane apoptosis and its role in premature rupture of membranes
• Prostaglandins as PPAR-gamma ligands and their role in placental apoptosis and NF-kappaB inhibitors
• Placental drug transport and the role of drug efflux pumps in protection of the fetus and placenta from harmful drugs and endogenous compounds
