Merton was an Anglo-Saxon fisherman who lived in Ravensthorpe with his grandson Arth during the 9th century.
Biography
Once a berserkr and fisherman in his retirement, Merton was requested by her daughter and son-in-law to raise their son Arth, who believed him to be too soft in the midst of the Viking incursions in England. Merton agreed and took in Arth,[1] and two came to settle in Ravensthorpe in Ledecestrescire, founded by the Norse Raven Clan and was made up on settlers of different background and ethnicities. The clan's temporary jarl Eivor Varinsdottir helped Merton to build a Fishing Hut by the docks, opposite Gunnar's forge.[2]
While initially believing his grandson to be incapable at fishing, Arth proved him wrong and came up with a variation of knot that had not been seen before. Proud of his improvement, Merton went on to provide more errands for Arth to do.[3] Over time, Merton also befriended the settlement's brewer Tekla, with whom he shared alchemical philosophy with.[4]
