Moccus was a 9th century Anglo-Saxon man from Glowecestrescire.
In the 870s, he fell in love with a local woman named Ermina, who became pregnant with his child. When Ermina abruptly left their community without a trace, he left in search of her. He eventually came to a nearby shrine, where he found Ermina and the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir. Once he saw the shieldmaiden had helped delivered their baby, he named the newborn Eivor in gratitude for her aid, and he vowed to stay with his new family, regardless of its effect on his reputation.[1]
Behind the scenes
His namesake comes from the Celtic god Moccus, as alluded to by Ermina.
