Otetiani was an expanse of woodland hills dotted with springs and cave systems in the west of the River Valley in New York.[1]
Once home to the indigenous Iroquois people, Otetiani's caves were painted with legends of the Sky Woman; a native pillar was also located atop a hill further inland.
History
By the 18th century, the French had discovered Otetiani and built a small settlement dependent on the area's supply of game and lumber. During the Seven Years' War, the British planned a siege on Otetiani against the French troops, which the Templar Shay Cormac participated in, backing the British.[2]
Behind the scenes
Otetiani was the birth name of the Seneca chief Red Jacket, meaning "He is prepared".
