Can't be a free image Kyro (talk) 08:08, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that though the advert is covered by Crown Copyright, a casual photograph of a bill board or newspaper was considered public domain? Otherwise we get into the situation that no photograph with a bill board in the background could be public domain. For comparison the following image has no issue with copyright: image:NewspaperSizes200508.jpgTeahot (talk) 09:03, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is not allowing for commercial usage on the source site http://White-Blue.kiev.ua Anatoliy (talk) 11:14, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  •   Keep. This was discussed many times, both here and in English Wikipedia. You (Ahonc) have also uploaded from this site (e.g. this one, tagging them with {{Attribution}} and thought it was normal. Files from this site were kept at enwiki, the result by Alex Bakharev (Alex Bakharev) is here. The source site says that Usage of the materials from the site is allowed if attributed to White-Blue.kiev.ua. For Internet projects provide hyperlinks to http://white-blue.kiev.ua with no restrictions to commercial use or derivative works, it's a clear case of {{Attribution}} license. The image is a photo of Dynamo Kyiv match, so it is not strange that the author is Dynamo Kyiv Fan Club, so it's not a copyright violation too. I don't understand why Ahonc wants to delete more and more photos of Ukrainian stadiums, and I don't see any valid reason for deletition here. The permission is clear (site doesn't require anything more than mention of the author), they also allow to use their photo not only on the Internet, so I can't find the word non-commercial in their terms of use — NickK (talk) 15:31, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Images of South African currency

edit
According to the South African Reserve bank, you need written permission from them each time you reproduce an image of South African currency. So, while we might get such permission, any user wishing to download and reproduce will have to get their own written permission. According to this document, "Reproduction of currency", by the South Africa Reserve Bank (emphasis by me):

Any person wishing to reproduce images of currency must within no less than two (2) weeks before taking steps for such reproduction, apply in writing for the Bank's permission. No reproduction of images of currency is allowed until the written permission of the Bank has been received.

and

With the exception of the circumstances as contemplated in paragraph 5.2, any person reproducing images of currency without the Bank’s authority as evidenced by its written permission envisaged in paragraph 6.5, will commit an offence in terms of the Act.

The exceptions they refer to are:

Financial and business news for publishing in weekly newspapers; and 5.2.3.2 Financial and business news in the form of a “cut away” on television.

For these reasons, I do not believe that images of South African currency are free enough for Commons. Anrie (talk) 07:06, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That may be the case in South Africa, but outside of South Africa, we can reproduce them freely. Nikola (talk) 17:55, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't make sense at all. Images of Bulgarian, Polish and Singaporean currency aren't allowed on Commons for similar reasons. Anrie (talk) 12:33, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I can't comment on the Commons' scope in terms of currency depictions, since I don't know it. However, I can't seem to find a copyright claim in that policy document, only a legal prohibition that would only apply in South African jurisdictions. dewet| 10:32, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's forbidden reproduce images of coins and banknotes everywhere in the planet, just take a look to the SARB's policy [7] Anyway, don't worry, I've written a letter to the Bank to ask for permission, I hope to receave and answer in a month (I live in Spain, and the mail takes a couple of weeks to arrive to Pretoria). In my opinion the images of these coins (and all banknotes in all articles in all languages of Wikipedia) must be removed till I receave an answer from the Bank. I've upload an pdf file of the letter I've sent to the SARB File:Rand.pdf.--Manu (talk) 18:10, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted. The bank seems to be the copyright holder and they clearly specify what is allowed and what is not. No reason to believe, that this is only valid in South Africa. Also the letter written by Manu aka User:Mvllez is not helping as it asks for a Wikipedia-only permission, which is insufficient to host the material on Commons.
