This image can be seen at http://www.mapanddata.info/FR05/CAR/carticFr2003.htm, also the talk page says this image was converted to a png from a gif, note how both images are strictly identical, right down to the thinning of some lines at particular points. This kind of data is not available for free in France, so I don't see how a single user can have collected this data all on his own. Jackaranga 15:14, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- This kind of data is available for sale for a few hundred Euros, however in order to buy the rights to republish it you would have to pay thousands and thousands of euros. I don't believe the user created this himself, due to the fact it requires teams of cartographers and thousands of hours of work to collect this amount of data, and there is no reason the result would have been identical down to the last pixel to this copyrighted version, even if he had managed. - I converted the (very large) GIF already on Commons to a much smaller PNG. However, I know nothing about the source of the GIF. If it's copyrighted, c'est la vie. Foobaz·o< 19:11, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Hmm, in the US, this would unquestionably be {{PD-ineligible}}, and put together by the government at that. Any comments? Patstuart (talk) 14:39, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- No it wouldn't, the PD-USgov applies only to the US government, it has nothing to do with the country the work is located in, also this map was not created by a government, it's blatant copyright infringement I don't know why this is taking so long. Also cartographic data is not ineligible for copyright. Jackaranga 20:58, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Comment I’m nearly sure that this is PD-ineligible in France. Wait until I check. VIGNERON * discut. 11:43, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Salut ! I just visited the site of Articque, http://www.mapanddata.info/ , from where the map came. It is one of numerous free downloads of maps and statistical data from the site available for simply registering. The home page calls the downloadable maps and statistical resources « Ressources gratuites », and the top of the download page calls them « Téléchargement gratuits ». There is no copyright information or other restrictions indicated whatsoever on the download page or on the maps themselves. There is also no indication that they actually created the maps, thought I would logically assume they did since statistical mapping is their line of business. One would think that if Articque was interested in « protecting » their rights to these maps that the least they would do is put their name or web address or something on them! - - Since there appears to be no restictions on this « free » map, and this was converted into another format for Wikipedia, it is not for resale, and it does not restrict Articque's ability to sell their product in any way, it should be allowed to stay, in my opinion. It is extremely interesting, which lead me to click on it and take a closer look - thus, leading to this talk page. Tchao ! Charvex 10:33, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Deleted. the mainpage of http://www.mapanddata.info/ has a clear assertion to copyright. Gnangarra 12:59, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
