New uploading of multiple images is awesome!

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7_2) AppleWebKit/535.2 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/15.0.874.121 Safari/535.2

Absolutely love the ability to select multiple images at once!

What would also be great is if we could add one category to be automatically applied to all the pictures in the batch being uploaded...would save a lot of time (for example, for each picture I just uploaded, I had to uncollapse the more options and then type in the same category.) Jwild (talk) 18:27, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

+1, adding common categories in a single place will help. Also I would like to see a global possibility to add descriptions in another language with single click. I do my descr. in en/de, this means 10 times to select German as second language. Once would be enough. --Herzi Pinki (talk) 10:24, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
This is tracked in bugzilla:26065, see discussion there for implementation strategy. Would definitely be great to get this done.--Eloquence (talk) 18:17, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

multiple images - empty files

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110422 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.6.17

In the process of highlighting several files and trying to add several to the uploader in one pass, can the warning about the files not having been picked and being empty be a few minutes earlier in the process. If it was before you finished the file picking process you'd have the opportunity to try and get them again. Jonathan Cardy (talk) 21:22, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

when uploading images in the batch uploader it would save a lot of time if teach time you picked an image it defaulted to the directory that the previous image came from instead of making you work your way through your menu system for each file. Jonathan Cardy (talk) 21:24, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Multi-Upload Issues

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0

On December 14th, I was able to select and upload multiple images in parallel with no issues. Now, when I select and upload, the second through last images fail the upload with "The file you submitted was empty." Proceeding to the next screen reveals that Commons believes it has uploaded the last file's image data and associated it with the first image's metadata. What broke between December 14th and 15th? Also, there appears to be no way to cancel the upload at that point, presumably leaving an orphaned image on the Commons servers.

Fix file renaming issues

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:8.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0.1

Sorry to report that I miss named my very first file upload. I've just tried to delete and re-upload with the correct name. After inputting all info again, I find that I can not re-upload the file.

Any suggestions on a work around?

Regards

Glen Langston Glangsto (talk) 22:17, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Glen! Regular users cannot rename or delete files themselves, so what you should have done is edit the file description page and add {{rename|Green Bank 100m diameter Radio Telescope.jpg|uploader request}} to request renaming. No big deal, though. I've tidied things up for you. More importantly, you did not provide a verifiable source for the file, and you got the copyright information wrong. The NRAO is not a U.S. federal government agency and its content is not in the public domain. Luckily, though, it is free. I've tracked down the source, fixed the issues, and uploaded a higher resolution version of the image. Cheers, LX (talk, contribs) 23:09, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

When I try to upload a file like a png file, cause it does support that I get an unknown error with a orange triangle that has a letter i in the middle.See what happend I had another account that associated my ip address, and it linked it to this one,and it didnt successfully upload. Also Iam trying to upload those same files, but the only difference this time around is is that I want to choose a catagory to where these files would be easy to access and download.I have a catagory to where I would like to associate these with, and that is ROAD SIGNS IN THE UNITED STATES and I dont see them anywhere there. So could you please explain the whole process in which I can get these signs that I have made over to the road signs in the United States catagory? My e-mail is totallysupercool@yahoo.com

User interface title confusion

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.19) Gecko/2011110821 Iceweasel/3.0.6 (Debian-3.0.6-3)

The upload wizard asked for a "title" but did not make it clear that this would be used as part of the filename. As a result, I just uploaded a file with a stupidly long and rambling filename. Of course, neither changing the file name nor deleting the file is straight forward - I have to fight through the user information to make contact with a friendly Admin. Not allowed to load a similar file with the correct file name, so I just tweak something trivial in the file and then upload that - a duplicate that can't be easily identified as a duplicate - so this GUI and the thinking behind it has led a contributor to make a worse mess in order to get round the first hiccup. Not a happy bunny, and I hope this will prompt folks to revisit the "title" and "no duplicates" use cases. — Cheers, Steelpillow (Talk) 15:01, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Per mw:Special:Code/MediaWiki/105843, I've tried to clarify this a bit with an update to the tooltip.--Eloquence (talk) 00:15, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

under "Release rights", if I choose this option and put some template like "PD-old" in the textarea, when I click "Next" nothing happens. Candalua (talk) 16:02, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

I can confirm this (using SeaMonkey 2.6.1, Windows Vista). I tried to choose this option and put {{PD-old-70}} {{PD-1923}} in the box. The preview button works, but "Next" doesn't, it's impossible to continue. Gestumblindi (talk) 21:43, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Can't upload multiple files

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.25) Gecko/20111212 Firefox/3.6.25

Whenever i try to upload multiple files I get an "unknown error" for all except the first file. Additionally, the first image file in a folder is always uploaded, regardless of which file is selected for upload. The only way I can upload from the wizard is to upload the first file in a folder, delete it, then upload the next and so forth. Tiresome and makes the wizard totally redundant. I could do that with the old tools, without needing to delete files. Mark Marathon (talk) 09:28, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello Mark,
this is unfortunately a known issue with the Firefox 3.x branch. It's a relatively old release by now, so I would suggest upgrading to a more recent version if you can (Firefox 8 is the latest release). We'll blacklist the multi-file selection feature for that version of Firefox if we can't fix it.--Eloquence (talk) 22:22, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

new image version fail

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1) AppleWebKit/535.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/16.0.912.63 Safari/535.7

Failed to upload a new version of this image: commons. wikimedia . org/wiki/File: GLONASS_position_geometry_factor_PDOP.gif

1. New version is needed because of the new satellites and therefore significantly better quality/result.

New image can be found here: www . glonass-ianc.rsa. ru/en/GLONASS/MomentaryAvailability.php

I would appreciate if someone could do that. Wasn't able to do it myself after spending ~1hr in trying to do it somehow.

2. Would be nice to have a faster and easier way to upload a new version of the same file. What's going on with all these copyrights, descriptions and other bullshit requirements? I am trying to upload a new version of the same image (same copyright, same description, same everything except the date) - why do I need to needlessly spend time to complete all the stupid forms, when I could simply copy&paste the old code (or the engine could do it for myself after which I could simply edit the date detail)?
