English: This is a photograph of the vegetation of North Island in the Houtman Abrolhos. Note the difference in vegetation density on different sides of the fence line ;
this is due to overgrazing by an unchecked population of the introduced Tammar Wallaby (Macropus eugenii). Français : Cette photographie illustre l'effet du surpâturage (hors de la zone clôturée) de la végétation naturelle de l'une des îles coralliennes d'(Houtman Abrolhos, ou Îles Abrolhos ; un ensemble de 122 îles et récifs coraliennes situés dans l'océan Indien au large des côtes ouest de l'Australie. Ce surpâturage est dû à une espèce de Wallaby (Macropus eugenii introduite hors de son écosystème, en l'absence de prédateurs et de ses parasites naturels. |
