El albedo es el porcentaje de luz que una superficie refleja respecto a la luz que recibe. Las superficies claras tienen valores de albedo superiores a las oscuras. El albedo medio de la Tierra es del 37% a 39% de la luz que proviene del Sol (100%) y se refleja en la Luna pocos días antes y después de la nueva, pudiéndose apreciar su superficie no iluminada por el Sol.
