Chevrolet's economy car lineup, which used to consist of miserable rental fleet fodder like the Cavalier/Cobalt and the Aveo, now looks a lot better, with GM finally dipping into its overseas resources to produce competitive models for worldwide sales.

All three of these cars are from GM Korea, which used to be known as Daewoo. The right, the Cruze, has replaced both the Cavalier/Cobalt and the Daewoo Lacetti (Suzuki Forenza/Chevrolet Optra), and with fuel-efficient Opel powertrain, has been fairly well received. The middle, the Sonic, replaces the Aveo and is a far better car. The left, the Spark, is the newest member of the trio, and it is the newest iteration of the car that used to be marketed in many overseas markets as the Daewoo Matiz or the Chevrolet Matiz.

For the US market, the Cruze is built in Lordstown, Ohio, at the same plant that used to build the Cavalier/Cobalt. The Sonic's production has also moved stateside, taking place at Orion Township, Michigan. The Spark is produced by GM Korea, at the same Incheon assembly plant that used to crank out the Aveo, the Lacetti/Forenza/Optra, and the Daewoo-branded vehicles.
