English: U.S. Army soldiers from B Battery use a 5-ton vehicle to pull a M-198 155 mm howitzer off of a U.S. Navy Landing Craft Air Cushion on Jan. 21, 1998, during Joint Task Force Exercise 98-1. The Landing Craft Air Cushion, more commonly known as an LCAC, transported B Battery and their equipment from Vieques Island to Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, after a joint, live fire exercise with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. More than 30,000 U.S. military personnel are participating in the exercise which is testing joint forces on their ability to deploy rapidly and conduct joint operations during a crisis. All branches of the armed forces are training side-by-side using the latest advances in technology in a simulated high-threat environment that involves air, naval and ground operations. B Battery is attached to the 1st Battalion, 377th Field Artillery Regiment (Air Assault), Fort Bragg, N.C. The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit is from Camp Lejeune, N.C. |
