English: After the plans of Kosta Atanacković-Stanišić, a talented but early departed Zemun architect, the Centre (with the school) of the Serbian Orthodox community was built in 1909, at the corner of the block between Bežanijska, Svetosavska and Rajačićeva Streets. The house was built at the place where there used to be Old confessional school from the eighteenth century and the tavern “Kod Kneza Miloša”. The building of the Serbian Centre and School has a cellar, ground floor and first floor. It was designed in the style of neo-romanticism, as a monumental and representative building with a complex façade, and particularly rich finishing cornice. The building also has a complex function: primarily designed as the church community centre and elementary school, it also has shops and apartments. Different functions influenced different dispositions of certain parts of the building, although one-wing solution is predominant. In its spatial composition the ceremonial hall at the corner of Bežanijska and Svetosavska Streets is accentuated with a cut corner and the closing cornice. It is one of the largest buildings of that time in old downtown Zemun, a rare work by architect Atanacković and a testimony of a developed elementary schooling in Zemun.
