Description

Cooling canal pattern at Florida Power & Light Company's Turkey Point Plant visible in this aerial photo shot from an altitude of 25,000 feet. The "enclosed" system uses 168 miles of canals to cool water for four generating units--including Florida's first two nuclear units--in South Dade County. Some 12 miles of mangrove shoreline, to the east and south of the cooling system, were deeded to the State by PPL as a wilderness preserve. Circa 1974.
