Description
Deutsch: In einigen Regionen in Deutschland (hier Nordhausen in Thüringen) wird nach der Trauung ein auf einem Sägebock liegender Holzstamm gemeinsam von Braut und Bräutigam zersägt. Man verwendet dafür eine Schrotsäge, bei der es darauf ankommt, stets abwechselnd zu ziehen, damit sie sich nicht verklemmt. Dieser Brauch steht für die gemeinsame, gleichberechtigte Arbeit, die das Brautpaar in ihrer Ehe versuchen möchte. Er symbolisiert die notwendige Balance von Reden und Hören, von Aktivsein und Seinlassen und die notwendige Aufmerksamkeit für die jeweiligen Bedürfnisse des Partners.
English: An old German wedding custom in some areas (here Nordhausen in Thuringia), the tradition of cutting a log represents the first obstacle that the couple must overcome in their marriage. They must work together to overcome the obstacle by sawing through the log. Using a large, long saw with two handles, the couple demonstrates their teamwork to friends and family.
