English: The VISSR instrument onboard the SMS-2 satellite captured this visible image of Hurricane Ivan over the central Atlantic Ocean on October 9, 1980. At the time this image was taken, Ivan was a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph (170 km/h), and its minimum central pressure was 975 millibars. |
