Deutsch: Buchmalerei aus dem Stundenbuch des Étienne Chevalier von Jean Fouquet (Musée Condé im Schloss Chantilly) — Im Kapitelsaal eines Zisterzienserklosters spricht der hl. Bernhard von Clairvaux zu acht Ordensbrüdern. Der Gesichtsausdruck von jedem der acht Zuhörer ist unterschiedlich; keiner versteht die Worte dieses wortgewandten Predigers in gleicher Weise. Die Gestik des hl. Bernhard bezieht sich wahrscheinlich auf die unten im Bild dargestellte Episode: Der durch die Hartnäckigkeit des hl. Bernhard besiegte Teufel verrät ihm schließlich die sieben Verse des Psalters, deren tägliche Rezitation das „Heil des Menschen“ sichert. (bearbeitete Deepl-Übersetzung der franz. Beschreibung)

Nul n'entend ni ne contemple les mots de cet éloquent prêcheur de la même manière. Le geste d'énumération de saint Bernard fait sans doute référence à l'épisode évoqué en dessous. Le diable, vaincu par la ténacité de saint Bernard, lui révèle enfin les sept vers du Psautier, dont la simple récitation quotidienne assure le salut de l'homme.
