At this particular building on Waikiki, a lighted ball mimics the well-known counterpart at Times Square, New York. It has started dropping, signaling that there is less than a minute left until midnight. It is already 2 hours into 2011 in Los Angeles, 5 hours in New York, and 10 hours in London; in Japan, where many visitors have come from, the sun has already set for New Year's Day. Hawaii is one of the last places in the world to greet the New Year, but also one of the most memorable. I had started 2010 on the Las Vegas Strip. Glad to end it on Waikiki Beach. |
