Neogobius fluviatilis prefers sandy bottomes, N. kessleri rocky bottoms, which is reflected in the color. The ligh sany colored fish is Neogobius fluviatilis. Neogobius kessleri has a wide mouthgape which it uses to predate on juvenile cyprinids.

Carp Bream 35cm foul hooked Nederrijn, The Netherlands. Noter the dark large pointed fins and pointed head.

Large Silver Bream (Blicca bjoerkna) Nederrijn. Noter the large eye, blunt head and small fins with some reddish color.

Middle sized Ide (Leuciscus idus) Note the slender shape compared to the bulky appearance of a 50 cm specimen. Also the color is more silvery. These Ides are sometimes confused with Chub, but they can be distinguished by the small scales, smaller mouth and concave anal fin.
