Gorgo
Hello Gorgo,
Thank you for Image:Yurikamome.jpg. Does this photograph show the Yurikamome or does it show the Tokyo Monorail? The image name (file name) says Yurikamome but the information says Tokyo Monorail.
Fg2 June 27, 2005 20:34 (UTC)
- wrong name (again), its the tokyo monorail (the yurikamome is a normal train) I realized it just after the upload :/ -- Gorgo 27 June 2005 22:46 (UTC)
- Thanks, that clears it up. If you like, you can change the name on your own home computer and upload it with the new name, then put a delete message in the Yurikamome image page. But even if you don't, at least anyone with a question can find your clarification. Fg2 June 28, 2005 07:12 (UTC)
- I uploaded it with a new name Image:Tokyo_Monorail_Jun2004.jpg, so I hope this should be fixed now :) -- Gorgo 2 July 2005 00:06 (UTC)
- Great! No chance of confusion now. Fg2 July 3, 2005 00:10 (UTC)
- I uploaded it with a new name Image:Tokyo_Monorail_Jun2004.jpg, so I hope this should be fixed now :) -- Gorgo 2 July 2005 00:06 (UTC)
resolution
editYou asked why this pic has a bad resolution - it's just because I am a photographer and I don't like it to be abused. So I put on the wikicommon logo to identify it as the only "common" version. A bigger one, copyrighted, is here - join it: Panorama Silvretta - regards, Mg-k 08:57, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)
"Un-nominated" featured pictures

Proposed policy: User:Pfctdayelise/Commons:Nudity
editHi Gorgo, since you commented on the deletion debate for Image:Masturbation.jpg, I thought you might be interested in commenting on this. I would be especially interested in hearing your critcisms since you opposed deletion for the image. (Well, so would I on current policy, which is why I've written this. :)) Thanks! pfctdayelise (translate?) 12:58, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
Could you please take a look to the newer version of this image proposed to be a FP? Thank you.

Deletion requests
editHi, Gorgo. You left some feedback on some pictures of Japanese war crimes, but by your response I'm not sure if you knew what you were supposed to be looking at. You said keep "both" pictures, but there were more than two pictures listed. Are you sure you didn't get confused by me mentioned the Slayers and the Ditch picture?
Also, what do you mean when you said "If the the source is questionable this has to be verified". Can you clarify on the page? Thanks 82.32.20.159 18:49, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
In addition, I thought images not being in use was a valid reason for deletion. That's why I listed those images in the category. 82.32.20.159 18:50, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for the clarification. Though I have left more feedback on the deletion page. 82.32.20.159 19:09, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry to trouble you again, but someone just gave me this [1]. If you look carefully, you'll see the journal says the Image:Nanjing ditch.jpg picture took place in Hsuchow, which is 300km away from Nanjing. Thus I would appreciate it if you support Jkelly's call to rename the article. 82.32.20.159 00:24, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Emil Kraepelin
editHey Gorgo, i uploaded the file http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9f/Emil_Kraepelin.png from the english wikipedia to use on the portuguese wikipedia, and i got the message that i didn't specify the location where i got it...how can i use files from one language to another without facing that problem? Aimee77 23:46, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- well, commons requires the possibilty to check the license, this is only possible if the author and permission of the image is given. The image Emil_Kraepelin.png was public domain in the english wikipedia, so you can't simply change it to GFDL, either it's public domain or it's not. Since Kraeplin died 1929 the author of that image might not be dead for over 70 year, which means it's a copyvio. I also highly doubt the validity of the pd-us tag of that image in the english wikipedia, since it only applies to pictures taken in the US. Unless you can find the author (who should be dead for > 70 years) or the date of the image (which should be made at least 100 years ago if the author is not known), you can probably not use the image here. -- Gorgo 00:38, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
About several files tagged
editHello. I've uploaded the following files to the article called 'Blues' located on the spanish wikipedia (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blues)
BluesBrothers2.jpg, Po'Gal.ogg, Caldonia.ogg, HowlinWolf_BackDoorMan.ogg, Hendrix-KF-Sample.ogg, Dukeel.jpg, Partitura.jpg and Robertjohson2.jpg
These files are **exactly** the same files that are located on the english article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blues), a wikipedia's featured article. The names of the files can be different but the contents are exactly the same.
If i'm honest, the spanish 'Blues' article was my first one on Wikipedia and it was a whole translation of the english one due to the poor quality and quantity of the spanish one. I've tried to copy the copyright information and details but due to being my first uploads i think that i did something wrong because i recall to see some copyright warnings on the wikipedia pages of the source files but i think "it's a featured article, it can't has any kind of copyright problem after all".
Sorry for all, it seems that I haven't started on the right path :).
--DYN DaTa 04:22, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- sorry for tagging so many images, but care has to be taken when transferring files from other projects. Some pictures are not licensed correctly and might have to be deleted there as well, others may be allowed on English wikipedia but not on commons (and maybe on Spanish wikipedia as well), fairuse for example. Please always copy the whole description and add a NowCommons tag to the original, a link to the original file is not enough because that image can be deleted after it was transferred.
- every image on commons needs to have a correct (free) license and this license needs to be verifiable, so usually at least the author and the permission of this author is needed as well. You can use the Information template for that. Thanks.
- I also added a help-text to your userpage, maybe that can help a bit as well -- Gorgo 14:31, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help-text boxes on my userpage and for your answer --DYN DaTa 18:30, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

editHi Gorgo, I apologise for the delay in my reply. I just looked at this ticket on OTRS. It is written in Italian and was closed successfully without comment by an Italian speaking user. I hope to get a reply soon, and let you know what the result is. cheers, pfctdayelise (说什么?) 04:37, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- I already sent traslation to Pfctdayelise of Ticket#: 2006120410015872 (Bandini Cars): it says that all that images belong to a book that's released under GFDL. What's the matter? --DracoRoboter 18:52, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

"full" vs "cropped"
editHi Goro, just so that you know: "Full" means the original picture from where derivatives are made (全形版). "Cropped" means part of the original photo has been cut out (カット版). Please do not overwrite the "full" picture with the "cropped" picture which already exists in commons. If there are two identical picutures, one will be removed by administrator.
Here are some of other "full" vs. "cropped":
-
full version
-
a cropped version
-
full version
-
a cropped version
If you like to keep the cropped version on your private gallery rather than your original full, then please use the "cropped" file. Thank you. Miracle 21:07, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- you're right, but in this case the full version doesn't have any advantages over the cropped one, it's just larger and doesn't show the subject (shinjuku) as well as the cropped version does. That's because I replaced the file and you're right, one of both can be deleted. -- Gorgo 20:00, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Randroide, odds and ends
editHi, Gorgo.
- About [2]: I cropped the image from [3]. I also cropped [4] from this image. Man, gigantic-resolution pictures allow you to do this kind of wizardry.
- ...the image is the only WWI w:Stahlhelm picture we have at Wikipedia, so please do not delete it.
- About [5] ...sigh. Yes, I took the picture with my own camera. Please try to be patient with not-so-well tagged pictures. I have been busy lately.
Cheers.

Re Image:Reese@72.jpg and Image:Plum@72jpg
editWell, I'll try and explain, and then you can tell me what to do. Both of these people I knew personally, so from their appearance in 1950-60 and from their dates of birth, I'm sure the photos were taken in the 1930s. None of the sources give either the name of the photographer, nor the date of the photograph. (main WP has articles for each: Terence Reese and Adam Meredith)
Both the photos were scanned by me from Hasenson P. 2004. British Bridge Almanac. They were not original in that work, nor does it give information as to where the photos originated. However, I am fairly sure both photos were published pre WWII, probably in British bridge magazines; almost all graphics in that book were previously published, often many years before.
After scanning, both photos were put into PhotoShop and cropped and massaged to give the best result I could get. Then 72jpg versions were uploaded to WP Commons.
Thus the basic justification is that I believe both images to be out of copyright (the photos were taken over 70 years ago), and the photographer is unknown (there are many images of these men after WWII when they became well-known, but avoided by me because I knew them to be more recent than 70ya).
You can see my difficulty in 'source'; the immediate source is as given above, but the original source is unknown.
I welcone your comments. Macdonald-Ross
- If you want to use pd-old we need to know the author and the author needs to be death for at least 70 years. This is highly unlikely if the image was taken in the 1930s. So it's not possible to use that license. If the image was taken in the UK it might be possible to use some of the images if the author is truly unknown Commons:Licensing#United Kingdom. But these rules are a minefield because they differ from country to country and these images might not be usable in most wikipedias. You might also use Anonymous-EU but I doubt that the author is anonymous if the images where published in a book (unknown and anonymous is not the same). In any case you have to say where you took the images from.
- This basically applies to all pictures you uploaded with similar license. -- Gorgo 21:44, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I've read Commons:Licensing#United Kingdom, and I find that it is possible to use a photograph from an unnamed photographer 70+ years ago. I am quite sure the source I used does not give a name for the photographer, snd I have never seen these particular photos before (and I have a considerable library on that subject), but I do assume they were published in bridge magazines in the 30s. M-R.
- ok, so I guess PD-UK-unknown could be used, I fixed these two images, but please also fix (source and license) images you uploaded before under pd-old, otherwise someone else might use them incorrectly or they might get deleted. Thanks.
- Another thing, please put images in (at least one) categories so it can be found. You can use the CommonSense tool or the link above each image for some suggestions. -- Gorgo 22:41, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

What Camera do You Use?
editI was curious as to whether you use film or digital camera, what's the make/model of camera you have, and if film, which type? Barney Gumble 23 June 2008
- you can see the Model in the metadata of each file (on the bottom of the page). My old pictures where shot with a en:Canon PowerShot A70, makes nice pictures. The new ones are shot with a Panasonic FX-01 or my Panasonic DMC-FZ8, I really love the FX01 because it's so incredible small and handy and the pictures are still quite good. I really like to have a camera with me all the time .. what good is a great and expensive DSLR if you don't have it with you because it's to heavy?
- So all of them are digital cameras. -- Gorgo (talk) 19:43, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- You have produced some really nice results regardless of the cost of the camera. I still prefer film myself. Barney Gumble 24 June 2008

Image Tagging Image:Misora-men.jpg
edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Misora-men.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 14:11, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Please help replace this outdated license
editHello!
Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.
The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

Question for Gorgo...
editHi Gorgo,
I really love the Moraine Lake photo. My question is do you have a version of the photograph that does not crop the bottom of the photo so much, and perhaps shows a little of the foreground land at the bottom of the photo? I would really like to have access to a photo like that. I don't know how to contact you? Please let me know and thanks for posting such a great photo.
Thanks, Cliff

editThis media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Oktoberfest stats de.svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. File:Wuppertal population.svg
editHallo Gorgo,
Kannst Du bitte helfen?
Danke, Dr-Victor-von-Doom (talk) 11:14, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- Das passiert nicht automatisch, du mußt den code in einer Datei abspeichern und mit gnucash aufrufen, dann wird die neue Grafik erzeugt die du dann hochladen kannst. Ich hab das mal gemacht. --Gorgo (talk) 20:33, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Apology
editSorry about the misplaced descriptions. They were intended for one of the files. I'll be more careful going forward.Frenezulo (talk) 13:23, 25 October 2015 (UTC)
A kitten for you!
editThank you very much for releasing your photos to the public domain. I plan to use them (especially the mountain photos from Canada!) as future AudioCD/SheetMusicBook covers for my "FreeMusic" series. :)
And I will probably credit you anyway. It is just good to know that forgetting to do so at whatever place (e.g.: Amazon thumbnail!) won't get me into legal trouble.

--Patagonier (talk) 22:04, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
