Removing of dots
editHi DLommes, you removed dots from this File:IndoGreekKingdomAndCampaigns.svg.
They were asked of by the requester at this request so how/why do you remove them without taking notice about that or did you check with Fasi100 first? --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:18, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Goran, thanks for the message. I am currently creating two more maps for Indo-Scythian and Indo-Parthian Kingdom for Fasi100, and in doing so got around to File:IndoGreekKingdomAndCampaigns.svg, which i updated according to MOS:MAP (legends outside the picture) and then also removed the dots, for reasons of file-size (removing them nearly halved the filesize of the svg). I am currently discussing the utility of the dots with Fasi100. We will surely come to an agreement. I don't care that much about the dots, so if we do not find an angreement, i will re-add the dots as in the original version. However, I hope to find a solution that is more aesthetically pleasing and smaller in filesize than the dots. So, thanks for notifying me, but Fasi100 and me are already discussing this, while I make the two other maps. Cheers. --DLommes (talk) 17:30, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Hint SVG technique: if the dots are important (what I subjectively not see) there is a SVG method to do such issue elegant (small code) with pattern.[1] Cheers -- Perhelion (talk) 17:55, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks both of you. I wasn't very fond of the dots either but the requester asked specifically for them. Yes I know the build image size even though I made them as clones. The file size is not that critical anymore as it was years ago so for me that is not a reason if someone wants it. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:01, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Italy 2nd republic parties
editHi Lommes, I noticed your work about italian parties, i would like to make some suggestions:
- Lega Nord in 1996 obtained more than 10%, so the logo should be larger.
- Italy of Values's logo is really not the one you put in your work. That logo is the 2013 version, after the defeat of Civil Revolution and the new leadership of Mr. Messina. Here's the older version of the party logos, if you cannot put both the 2000 and 2006 version, I'd like to suggest to insert the second one.
- Also Communist Refoundation changed their logo a lot of time, so you should pay attention to what logo you insert in your infographic.
- Italy of Values run also in 2001 election, though they run as an indipendent party, but obtaining less than 4%, so you should add it
- In 2008 a leftist party called The Left - The Rainbow run in the election, obtaining 3%, and a righist party, The Right - Tricolour Flame obtained 2% at the election
- In 2013 Civil Revolution should be at the left of the Democratic Party, like Communist Refoundation in the past years
That's all, I think, you did a good job anyway. --Broncoviz (talk) 13:45, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
- dear @Broncoviz, thank you very much for your critique and suggestions. I have changed them, as best as I could. Can you please take a look and, if necessary, give me additional info as to what needs to change? Thank you very much, I really appreciate your effort. - Lommes (talk) 17:15, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you, there are some other little suggestions about the parties' logo between elections. Anyway, if you feel that too many variations between logos in your work can be a little confusing, you can find your work good enough as is it now (but I would suggest to look at the seventh point). Here's other suggestions about logos, anyway:

- National Alliance logo of 2006 election changed, displaying the name of their leader (the other one was never used for the election, the correct one should be the one you insert).
- The People of Freedom electoral logo in 2008 and 2013 was a little different from the official logo, including the leader name.
- Also Lega Nord's logo changed a lot from the current logo, unfortunately, they are kinda available only on the italian page.
- UDEUR logo in 2006 was different from the one showed in your infographic, it's the one with the name of their leader in it.
- Greens logo between 2004 and 2009 (it affects the 2006 election) changed a bit, including a flag of the peace with the white words "per la pace" (for the peace) above it. I linked you the italian page and not the english one, but it's easy to find.
- Union of the center logos changed between years. The current logo is the post-2013 election (without the leader's name in it). The second one is for the 2006 election, the third one for the 2008 election, the fourth one for the 2013 election.
- Apparently, it seems like I failed to suggest you a change of logo for Italy of Values. In 2006 they used the 2008 version (here you can see a "fac-simile" of the ballot for the italian 2006 election)
- In 2006 Forza Italia changed their logo inserting this one instead of the classic tricolour flag.
- In 2001 election there isn't the party European Democracy because there is no logo both in italian and english version. If you can, the logo is this.
It should be (I hope) everything for now. Sorry for being late, anyway. --Broncoviz (talk) 19:27, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
- dear @Broncoviz, thank you again. Can you please recheck? I hope I included all your suggestions. I was unable to do the Lega Nord properly, as many of the logos you linked were unavailable. If you have other links, I'd be happy to alter the logos, of course. I am also open to any further suggestions. --Lommes (talk) 18:04, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Lommes, it should be almost correct. I noticed only a little mistake: the People of Freedom's logo of 2008 should be the same of the 2013 logo.
- In addition, I would suggest one more change: the 2001 logo of CCU-CDU should be this one (obviously without the written part under the logo "Al centro c6 tu"), their united list called "The Whiteflower" had a different logo instead of the classic CDU logo.
However, I think that now should be really complete. Italian politics can be such a pain, even when it comes to electoral logos... --Broncoviz (talk) 22:05, 22 March 2017 (UTC)
- @[[User:Broncoviz|Broncoviz], the final change? Best, --Lommes (talk) 17:13, 24 March 2017 (UTC)
Stub puzzle image
editHello. Thanks a lot. It's a deal. But I make a proposal. I mean it is used mostly in templates. I can only ask it for protected template; in template talk and in village pumps of course. So I'll change it in all non protected page but, please, escluding substed welcome templates in user talk pages. Are too many. I'll ask for a bot but actually, I think that in most cases I will get a no. User talks are too much and not NS0, so the majority of people think they not worth spending server resources to change them. --Pierpao.lo (listening) 08:21, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
Hallo, Lommes. Gruß, De728631 (talk) 16:47, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

Silicon Valley map city selection
editYou created a new map of Silicon Valley by highlighting some of the cities associated with Silicon Valley, but what was your inclusion criteria? Certainly the definition was smaller at the beginning, and then it expanded to more cities as time went by. More inclusive sources exist that list more cities than you do. Binksternet (talk) 16:56, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hey @Binksternet, i based this on an existing map: File:Map silicon valley cities.png - feel free to change my map if you see a way to improve it. Cheers! --Lommes (talk) 19:18, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for the tip. I see that the other map uses the earliest cities identified as Silicon Valley. I don't intend to change your map but I want to help the reader put it in context by writing a more descriptive caption. Binksternet (talk) 19:35, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Binksternet: i made the map because i was always a bit confused as to the geographical extent of silicon valley (many sources nowadays often use it to mean 'San Francisco'), and noticed the article was lacking a proper map. you seem to know more about this than me, so if you give me a list of "earliest" (is this already my existing map?) and "in the broadest sense" (is this the page you linked?) it would not be much work to combine both into a map (for example with dark blue, light blue, or similar)... i don't know if you think that's worthwhile. i am always happy for others to check and correct (and suggest improvements or make them themselves) my work, as the last thing i want to do is make wikipedia/commons worse. cheers! --Lommes (talk) 20:33, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- Nobody publishes a naked list of the cities of Silicon Valley, especially as they increase over time. Instead, observers generally say that Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Mountain View are the core cities, because of Hewlett-Packard and Stanford University in Palo Alto, Fairchild Semiconductor in Mountain View (the first silicon chip company), and various venture capital firms in Menlo Park—also where the first homebrew computer club started. These three cities should be the epicenter of Silicon Valley, perhaps along with Moffett Field, the Navy airfield which was established outside of any city limits. Other cities show up in the literature after the first three. Apple was founded by homebrew clubbers in Cupertino. Sunnyvale had military contractors and tech. Santa Clara had the first Intel building. San Jose had IBM. One would have to read deeper into the literature to get a sense of which cities are the core of Silicon Valley. Here's a list of cities from a business blog (not so reliable) and they include Redwood City which joined Silicon Valley in 1977 at the founding of Oracle. Milpitas joined Silicon Valley in 1981 when Linear Technology was founded. I don't think Palo Alto Hills is considered core, nor is Saratoga, yet they appear on the other map. Binksternet (talk) 21:47, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- so, @Binksternet, from what you say i gather (correct me if i am wrong), it would make sense to mark Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Mountain View as in some way special (e.g. dark blue, or with a golden star, or something), and then have a much bigger group of dots, many more than are currently on the map, marked in a less conspicuous way (light blue, or half-transparent, or not-a-star, or something), but it is very unclear which cities this bigger group contains. is that a fair summary of what you said? if so, shouldn't we just take the list you linked (it's the "Silicon Valley Historical Association" after all, their name sounds like they know something) and use that as the bigger group? cheeers! --23:54, 1 March 2023 (UTC) Lommes (talk) 23:54, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, that is a good solution, using the linked SVHA source for more cities to create a static image with three core cities highlighted in some fashion, and more cities shown around those. But another possibility is a shifting image that shows the expansion over time. That would be harder to research, and harder to create. Binksternet (talk) 00:06, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
- I started with the list of the SVHA, as discussed, but already the second entry is a problem: "Atherton is a small, rural, and residential community, with no industrial land-use base..." - So this is clearly not "Silicon Valley" in any useful way. I did, as per your suggestion, update the map and highlight the three core cities, but i don't think the SVHA list is as good a source as i originally thought. It seems they -as is their list title- just list "Cities in the region of Silicon Valley", with "in the region" here apparently meaning "close to" or "in the neighborhood". Perhaps another option, which is good for consistency, is to just use the list already in the article at w:Silicon_Valley#Municipalities? What do you think? As to your dynamic image, i am not up for it, sorry. Cheers! --Lommes (talk) 10:36, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
