You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thank you for your submission of File:Электропоезд ЭР9Е в Ижевске.jpeg. While all submissions are useful, do you think you might be able to supply a better quality version of the same, or similar, content? In many cases, the largest and highest resolution possible is the most useful version to have available. (MediaWiki has automatic resizing functionality, so there is no need for multiple versions of the same image at different sizes, users can select any size and the software will generate and cache the needed resolution on the fly.)

If you can supply the same exact image as File:Электропоезд ЭР9Е в Ижевске.jpeg at a larger resolution (or media at a higher bitrate, etc.), please just upload it over the original, users will get the new higher quality version with no further effort on your part. If on the other hand, the content is only similar, it is best to select a new image name, as there may be uses already where some aspect of the existing media was key to the usage. In the latter case, if you can provide a crosslink reference to the new image in the older one and vice versa, that will be extremely helpful.

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

Чукотский автономный округ

Жаль, такие карты создавали разные пользователи. И я заметил, что карты российских субьектов, которые граничат с предлагаемыми регионами (например, Ростовской областью) так же окрашены как и другие граничащие государства. А территория данных регионов, рельефные карты которых представлены, может не совпадать по цвету с админ. границами. Например, в случае с Аляской более яркие цвета охватывают и берег штата. Hello! Is it possible to make one SVG map of Belarus with oblasts and rayons? It could be done of merged files:

Relief maps !

Hello, how are you ?

I have seen that have been drawing relief maps for the provinces and comarcas of Panama. I want to ask you a favor, ¿ could you draw the relief maps for the departments of Colombia ? those that currently exist do not comply with the conventions of mapping workshops. Here is the list of location maps of Colombian departments.

Okay, I understand. The location maps of Panama were extracted from OpenStreetMap and corrected with official maps from the Panamanian government. Tools? only inkscape.--Shadowxfox (talk) 03:01, 4 May 2016 (UTC)

Source of relief maps

Hi Nzeemin. I'm curious, what's the source of the relief maps like File:Croatia relief map.png? Is it available online? I'd like to use it to (re)create the maps of 21 Croatian counties, as the ones we now have are pretty much... ahm... useless: File:Osijek-Baranja County OpenStreetMap.svg. Thanks! Hello. The map created using GMT console tools. Sources described on the map page: TOPO30 for relief and bathymetry, File:Croatia location map.svg for borders and coastline. I created it ten years ago, still have the batch file used to create the raster, and the raster itself. Thank you, Nzeemin. I hoped it would be easier / more user-friendly. For me, learning how to code all that and where to find good data would be too much (work), at least for now.
