Image Tagging Image:Duke Rothesay.gif
edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Duke Rothesay.gif. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Image deletion warning | Image:Galerida_deva.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. |

Blanking pages
editHi. If you wish to delete a page, please see COM:DELETE for the procedures. Simply blanking a page does not delete it. Alternatively, you can try Speedydelete. Patstuart (talk) 22:16, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Hello.
Duplicate Image
editHi PHz, Thanks for spotting my duplicate image, as I've used the duplicate on the Jacky-Winter page, should I delete the first instance? Image:Jacky-Winter glendavis sept03.jpg Appreciate any advice that you can give regarding deleting it.Aviceda 02:25, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Brazilian birds
editI have undone your edits to two species; Hylocharis cyanus and Veniliornis maculifrons. When undoing ID correction made by other people, please do consider checking a guide before assuming it is wrong. I do not know how often you check your English wiki page, but just in case, I have added two comments with notes on the identification of these species there. 212.10.84.45 18:30, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- I have replied to your comment on my talk page here. 212.10.84.45 10:11, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I took your suggestion and have corrected quite a few identifications and added identifications in other cases where none was specified. I have not commented on any of the photos without locality, from USA (I know Neotropical species well, but not the US), and I have only added an identification to the first version of this photo (there are two identical copies here and here that I haven't commented on, although they obviously involved the same species). For questions on the ID's, don't hesitate to ask. 212.10.84.45 15:38, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see any problems with the identification of Image:Descent of Man fig48.jpg. Of course it is always difficult to comment on this type of illustrations, but it certainly looks like a match for Lophornis ornatus. The only illustration regarding this species I changed was Image:Haeckel_Lophornis.jpg, where the upper mistakenly was identified as L. ornatus - presumably because of a switch made on the main illustration: Image:Haeckel Trochilidae.jpg (I have just corrected it). I therefore also removed it from the gallery under Lophornis ornatus. 212.10.90.159 15:49, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
- I have just added Image:Descent of Man fig48.jpg to Lophornis ornatus. 212.10.90.159 15:55, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Brazilian hummingbird
editRegarding your comment to this photo. The identification to group is fairly straight forward; note the pale rump band (which it appears you confused with a wing-patch). This is only found in coquettes (Lophornis and Discosura) and thorntails (Discosura). In this group, only two are found in São Paulo state (south-eastern Brazil): L. chalybeus and L. magnificus. Female L. magnificus is completely different, thus making species identification fairly easy. Female Chlorostilbon mellisugus, while superficially similar, can be excluded on several accounts: The pale rump-band, the locality (several thousand km. away from any records of this sp), the strongly buff-tinged lower underparts, the dark (not green) uppertail-coverts, post-ocular spot (not an elongated post-ocular streak), poorly defined dark spot on chest, etc. Most of these features and various other also exclude Eupherusa spp, which are restricted to regions even further away, with no species anywhere in South America (only in Central America). So, in short, the above mentioned photo show a very typicaly L. chalybeus, and there are absolutely no doubts regarding the identification (they are quite common in south-eastern Brazil, so I've seen - literally - thousands). I would add, however, that it is important to note the subspecies: The far rarer Amazonian subspecies, klagesi and verreauxii, are much darker below than the subspecies on this photo, L. c. chalybeus. This can confuse if relying on e.g. the field guide to Peru, Ecuador or Venezuela, where only the Amazonian subspecies are includes. 212.10.81.186 23:04, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:04, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Cordialement.
