You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

Einladung zur WLM-Fototour Erfurt 29. - 31. August 2014

Hallo TOMMES-WIKI,

mit dem Hochladen von Fotos zu Thüringen hast du dich am Fotowettbewerb "Wiki Love Monuments" in den letzten Jahren beteiligt. Im September wird dieser Wettbewerb zum vierten Mal in Deutschland stattfinden. Seit kurzem sind nun auch die Denkmallisten zu Erfurt mit rund 3700 Einträgen fertiggestellt. Vielleicht hast du Lust, Deine Foto dort einzubinden.

Besonders wollte ich dich aber auf eine Fototour durch die Altstadt von Erfurt hinweisen, die am Wochenende vom 29. - 31. August stattfindet. Da es sich um eine von WMDE geförderte Veranstaltung handelt, können auf vorherigen Antrag auch die Reisekosten der Einzelnen gefördert werden. Weitere Informationen gibt es auf der Projektseite, wo auch die Registrierung erfolgt. Es würde mich freuen, wenn du wieder bei WLM dabei wärst.

Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 startet in Kürze

Hallo TOMMES-WIKI,

in Kürze ist es wieder soweit. Der nun schon traditionelle Fotowettbewerb Wiki Loves Monuments wird im September zum vierten Mal stattfinden. In ähnlicher Form hatte unlängst der Wettbewerb "Wiki Loves Earth" eine erfolgreiche Premiere. Zu allen bisherigen vier Wettbewerben haben seit 2011 gut 3000 unterschiedliche Teilnehmer (User) ihren Beitrag geleistet. Du warst dabei, und bist auch herzlich eingeladen, am bevorstehenden WLM-Wettbewerb wieder dabei zu sein.

Allein in Deutschland wurden in den letzten drei Jahren im Rahmen von WLM rund 100.000 Fotos zu den insgesamt ca. 850.000 Kulturdenkmalen bundesweit hochgeladen. Jährlich haben sich mehrere Hundert Wiki-Fotographen daran beteiligt. Auch im kommenden Denkmalmonat wird dies gewiss wieder der Fall sein. Der Tag des offenen Denkmals am 14. September bietet bundesweit vielfältige Möglichkeiten, Denkmale nicht nur von außen, sondern auch von innen zu fotografieren. Denkmallisten sind dabei ein wichtiger Orientierungspunkt und zugleich auch Ziel der Einbindung der Fotos. Auch in diesem Jahr sind wieder neue Denkmallisten hinzugekommen, die hilfreich bei der Planung von individuellen oder Gruppen-Fototouren sind und auf eine Bebilderung warten, wie z.B. zu Görlitz oder Zittau. Unter den Landeshauptstädten fehlt nur noch Stuttgart. Aber auch hier ist Licht in Sicht.

In der Mitte Deutschlands hat die Denkmallandschaft der thüringischen Landeshauptstadt Erfurt nun das Licht der Wikipedia-Welt entdeckt. Mehr als 50 Tabellen enthalten 3.700 Denkmale. Allein die wunderschön restaurierte Altstadt umfasst 1.800 Denkmale. Eine von WMDE geförderte WLM-Fototour nach Erfurt am Wochenende vom 29. – 31. August lädt herzlich ein, diese einzigartige Kulturlandschaft zu dokumentieren. Mehr Informationen findest Du auf der Projektseite.

Der WLM-Countdown hat begonnen

Hallo TOMMES-WIKI,

nun ist es wieder soweit. Vom 1. bis zum 30. September findet zum fünften Mal der internationale Wettbewerb Wiki Loves Monuments statt. Im Mittelpunkt steht bekanntlich das Fotografieren von Kulturdenkmalen. Du hast an einem der letzten Fotowettbewerbe teilgenommen und wir freuen uns auf weitere Bildbeiträge von Dir.

Viele interessante Motive, nicht nur Burgen und Schlösser, sondern auch Fachwerkhäuser, Brücken und Brunnen, technische und Industriedenkmale und vieles mehr gibt es noch zu fotografieren, damit sie in der Wikipedia dokumentiert werden können. Nützliche Tipps findest du auf unserer WLM-Projektseite. Du kannst gerne individuell Fototouren durchführen oder aber Dich auch Gruppentouren anschließen. Besonders freuen wir uns auf Fotos, die Lücken in den Denkmallisten der Wikipedia ausfüllen.

Darüber hinaus kannst Du auch an der Arbeit der Jury teilnehmen, die Mitte Oktober die Fotos bewerten und die Gewinner ermitteln wird. Bis zum 15. August kannst du hier Deine Bewerbung einreichen.

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

Entfernung der Kategorie Toys from German Democratic Republic

Hallo TOMMES-WIKI, Du hast bei den Bildern File:MEK 3.0-6422.jpg, File:MEK 3.0-6423.jpg und File:MEK 3.0-6424.jpg die Kategorie 'Toys from German Democratic Republic' entfernt. Darf ich fragen wieso? Hallo GodeNehler,

bei dem "ATA Gedächtnisspiel" handelt es sich nicht um ein in der ehemaligen DDR hergestelltes Spielzeug.

Das Spiel wurde vom Inkognito-Verlag als Retro-Spiel ausgegeben. Daher habe ich die Bilder aus der Kategorie 'Toys from German Democratic Republic' entfernt.

I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.

vielen Dank für dein Feedback :-).

Ich ergänze schon seit einiger Zeit die Objektkoordinaten zur Georeferenzierung - da gab es zum Teil noch keine Verlinkungen zu Wikidata. Daher war es wohl erst mal so eine Angewohnheit von mir mich nicht zu sehr auf Wikidata zu konzentrieren.

Ich geh da auf alle Fälle mit deinem Hinweis dazu mit, diese Objektkoordinaten auch in Wikidata mit einzupflegen, das wäre auch mein nächstes Projekt :-).

OK, ich verstehe es so: das Haus 21a stand mal an der Stelle ses Anbaus. Das ist natürlich kein Grund, auch das Bachhaus wahllos in diese Kategorie zu schieben; ich sortiere stattdessen die Category:Bachhaus Eisenach (Anbau) in die Category:Haus Frauenplan 21a, Eisenach ein. --A.Savin 18:41, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

Hallo Thomas,

danke für dein Feedback :-) - wahrscheinlich geht es um (glaube ich) im Besonderen um die Katergorie "Bühl (Altenburg)" - hier hatte ich tatsächlich ein paar Schwierigkeiten mit dem verschieben, da es hier Verlinkungen gegeben hat an die ich irgwie nicht ran kam - so hab ich in diesem Fall einen etwas unkonventionellen Umweg gewählt.

Wünsche hiermit einen angenehemen Start in die neue Woche zur Vorweihnachtszeit.

Kategorienumbenennungen

Hallo Tommes, ich finde die von dir durchgeführten Umbenennungen von Kategorien in der Form: Stierenbachweg (Weimar) -> Stierenbachweg den Aufwand nicht wert, da (1) es in Commons keine so strikten Regeln wie in WP gibt, dass die Kategorie genau so heißen muss, (2) man erzeugt wieder den gleichen Aufwand wenn zukünftig ein Stierenbachweg in Bla-Stadt auftaucht, (3) der Klammerzusatz kontextualisiert die Kategorie. Das zusammen gegen den Aufwand und keine weiteren Vorteile durch die Umbenennung würde ich die Kategorien einfach so belassen. Ist nur als Tipp gemeint - kannst das natürlich machen wie du willst. --Arnd 🇺🇦 (talk) 12:34, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Category:Karlsplatz 1 (Gotha)

Bitte in Zukunft NIEMALS parallele Kategorien zum gleichen Objekt erstellen. Wenn das Empfangsgebäude des Bahnhofs Gotha überhaupt eine eigene Kategorie benötigt, dann allenfalls als Unterkategorie des Bahnhofs, und ganz bestimmt nicht als "parallele Alternative" zur Bahnhofskategorie. --A.Savin 12:23, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
