This category comprises images from two annual publications, both commonly called Valentine's Manual:

  • Willis, Samuel J. (1841–2); Valentine, D. T. (David Thomas) (1842–3 through1866); Shannon, Joseph (1868 and 1869); and Hardy, Joseph (1870); (compilers). Manual of the Corporation of the City of New York. (New York: Common Council, 1841–70)
  • Brown, Henry Collins (ed.) Valentine’s Manual of the City of New York (1916–7 and 1917–8); Valentine's Manual of Old New York (1919 through 1928). (New York: The Valentine Company, 1916; The Old Colony Press, 1917; Valentine’s Manual Inc., 1919–28[1])

The former series had 28 issues. The first five were 1841–2 through 1845–6. The next was 1847 with each thereafter labeled by a single year. None was published for 1867.[2][3]

The latter series (edited by Brown), denoted "New Series", comprises 12 issues. The first two are 1916–7 and 1917–8, and the rest are labeled by single years from 1919 through 1928. Issues for 1926–1928 are still under copyright.[1]
