The Shadow Dog is a beast supposedly responsible for moments of great suffering in the world. However, it is actually meant to keep the actual culprit, The Beast, in check.
History
In the Garden of Eden, Adam named all the creatures, except one, which rebelled and followed the father of mankind out of the Garden to destroy his seed. For this, he was bound behind three doors and Adam created the Shadow Dog to kill him whenever he came close to breaking out. However, as it was always seen when the Beast sowed madness and death, it was blamed as the cause.[1]
The Beast finally tricked John Constantine and an assortment of other sorcerers into killing the Shadow Dog, allowing him to finally break free[2] and spread mass slaughter across the globe by controlling humanity's collective unconsciousness.[1] However, thanks to Constantine and Swamp Thing distracting the Beast, Angie Spatchcock, Gemma Masters, and Chas Chandler were able to resurrect the Shadow Dog, who defeated the Beast.[3]

Powers
- Immortality: The Shadow Dog is incapable of dying from old age, having existed since Eden.[4][1]
- Electrokinesis: When it was reborn, it manifested itself from lightning.[3]
- Unique Physiology: The Shadow Dog is a unique mystical creature capable of traveling into the collective unconsciousness of humanity.[2][3]
