Task Force X is a secret agency and supervisory organization of the United States government consisting of Argent and the Suicide Squad (the latter also known by the agency's name) that engaged in extraordinary threats and superhuman-related affairs.
History
The agency was created by President Harry S. Truman in 1951 to fill in the void left by the retired Justice Society of America, who were forced to disband after being vilified by the House Un-American Activities Committee. Task Force X was to combat threats that were once handled by the JSA and other "mystery men". The organization was composed of Argent, the civilian branch which dealt with costumed criminals; and the Suicide Squad, the military branch which dealt in national and international crises.[1]
In 1963, Argent cut all contact with Task Force X and went underground following in the wake of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. As a result, the two branches of Task Force X were combined into one, re-dubbed "Mission X".[1] However, Mission X soon lost the Suicide Squad when half of their members were killed in a botched mission, leading to the organization temporarily dissolving. By the modern era, Task Force X was resurrected by Amanda Waller.[1]
