The Kasteel van Arenberg was built in the years up to 1519 under the reign of William de Croÿ. It seems to have been used foremost as an hunting lodge and as pleasure palace. Significant are the onion shaped roofs of the towers that are an expression of loyalty to the House of Habsburg and emperor Charles V. for whom William de Croÿ served as Grand Chamberlain
Bedrooms
BearbeitenIn 1584 the marriage of William de Croÿ with Cinderella of Sweden was celebrated at the Kasteel von Arenberg. In the ceremony of bringing the couple to bed a stete bed made of pure gold was used that had curtains with depictions of the Illiad.[1]
Servants´ rooms
BearbeitenApart from the main staircase in the tower that was used for official purpuses, another hidden staircaise connected the ground floor and the first, similar to those at Schloss Weikersheim. Through this infrastructure it was possible to provide the appartements in the tower and the western wing with food from the kitchen without entereing the ceremonial space.[2]
Furniture
BearbeitenIn the gallery wallpaintings have been discovered that clearly resemble patterns designed by Daniel Marot.[3] This proves that the gallery rooms were redesigned in the 18. century.[4]
