"A Change in Me" is a song written for Belle in Beauty and the Beast: The Musical.
Originally written for Toni Braxton when she took on the role, the song was such a huge hit it has been in included in all the productions since. The song was also included in Disney's Jukebox Roadshow, On The Record where is was preformed by then newcomer, Ashley Brown (who would later go on to become the 15th Belle on Broadway and create the role of Mary Poppins for Broadway Stage). The coda of the song was changed to make it bigger. It now ends with belted notes and a grander orchestration. When Brown took over the role of Belle in 2005, they replaced the Braxton version with the Brown one. It is the Ashley Brown one that remained in all future performances of the show.
Lyrics
There's been a change in me
A kind of moving on
Though what I used to be
I still depend upon
For now I realize
That good can come from bad
That may not make me wise
But, oh, it makes me glad
And I
I never thought I'd leave behind
My childhood dreams
But I don't mind
For now I love the world I see
No change of heart
A change in me
For in my dark despair
I slowly understood
My perfect world out there
Had disappeared for good
But in its place I feel
A truer life begin
And it's so good and real
It must come from within
And I
I never thought I'd leave behind
My childhood dreams
But I don't mind
I'm where and who I want to be
No change of heart
A change in me
No change of heart
A change in me
