Casa Mexicana was a Mexican restaurant that operated in Disneyland's Frontierland from 1982 to 2001. It replaced Casa de Fritos, which was a similar restaurant that had a partnership with Frito-Lay from 1955 to 1982. Casa Mexicana served a variety of Mexican dishes, such as tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, and burritos, as well as Frito chips and salsa. The restaurant also featured periodic live mariachi performances and colorful decorations. Casa Mexicana was sponsored by Lawry's Foods, a company that produces seasonings and sauces.
Closure
In 2000, Disney announced plans to revamp and upgrade Casa Mexicana, which closed in early 2001 for a major renovation and rebranding. Its replacement, Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante, opened before Casa Mexicana officially closed, so both restaurants ran side-by-side for about a month. Rancho del Zocalo had the same concept as Casa Mexicana but with updated mosaic features, an improved menu, and a new sponsorship from Ortega, another company that produces Mexican food products. Casa Mexicana was one of the many attractions that reflected the cultural diversity and historical legacy of Frontierland, which was originally designed as Disneyland's wilderness retreat. The restaurant offered guests a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine and entertainment in a festive and family-friendly atmosphere.
