Plot

Simon gets up to start his first day as Santa Claus, only to lose the coat. He continues with his day anyway and tries to pump up the elves for the year. Betty already has reservations due to him not wearing the coat and Noel grows increasingly agitated at "Fake Santa Simon". Scott and Carol resume their normal lives in Chicago and prepare to raise Cal and Sandra right. The invent a story that Carol became a bush pilot, hence why they were away for so long. Carol resumes her teaching position at a school while Cal immediately befriends a girl named Riley.

Simon learns that the system that they use to track children can work all year round and potentially deliver on a daily basis. He implements a new ideology to turn the North Pole into the greatest year round delivery system, but Betty warns that this could diminish the spirit of Christmas. Noel attempts to challenge Simon to a duel, but Betty stops this, forcing Noel to write a letter telling her that he is leaving to get Scott. Simon finds the letter and tears it up. During Memorial Day, Cal reconnects with Riley after she moves to a different school and Sandra befriends a group of horse riding girls. Carol reveals to Scott that she will be leading a charter school.

During dinner, Scott comes to the realization that everyone in the family has something to do, leaving him with nothing. He reluctantly takes a job as a delivery driver for EverythingNow! and is visited by Noel who wants him back. Scott tells him that he needs to give Simon a chance as each Santa has their own way of doing things. The two of them proceed to do deliveries together, but get into a snowball fight with a group of kids resulting in Scott getting fired from his job. He admits to Carol that he is out of his element. Betty becomes suspicious when elves stop showing up for work and the reindeer refuse to fly. When she brings this up to Simon, he squarely puts the blame on her.

With only one month away until Christmas, Betty finds that the Christmas orb is getting darker and brings this to Simon's attention. The rest of the elves learn about it, but when Edie also speaks up, she suddenly disappears. Crouton also disappears, resulting in the elves all panicking. Simon fires Betty, who goes to Befana and discovers that the Santa coat is there, having arrived on its own. Betty asks Befana to call "Him". Scott tells his family that he will continue to be more attentive to them and offers to help set up Christmas decorations. However, they suddenly all freeze in place and a hand reaches up and touches Scott on the shoulder.
