The High Evolutionary appears as the film's main antagonist. He sent Adam Warlock to find Rocket Raccoon and have his ally return the raccoon to him, when it was revealed that the High Evolutionary experimented on Rocket when he was a baby and put him in a cage with other animals.

When Rocket tried to escape, the High Evolutionary killed Rocket's friends and he manged to escape the scientist's future experiments. Years later, the High Evolutionary found Rocket once more. Due to Rocket's aid in improving the evolution process of lower lifeforms so that the newly evolved Humanimals are peaceful and not violent anymore, the High Evolutionary was able to complete his process of creating a society fully comprised of such Humanimals, while discarding and killing all previous experimentation subjects as these were seen as flawed and merely a step in High Evolutionary’ s pursuit. The High Evolutionary then released all Humanimals to live on Counter-Earth, the promised utopia for them. Due to Rocket's escape, the High Evolutionary vowed to find the raccoon and continue torturing the little animal until he could succeed in his plans. The High 'Evolutionary worked with the Sovereign to get Rocket and when Ayesha disagreed, the High Evolutionary stopped torturing Adam as well.

The High Evolutionary arrived on Counter-Earth where he met Star-Lord and Groot and Star-Lord confronted him for his actions against Rocket. The High Evolutionary threatened Star-Lord by demanding he handed over Rocket in exchange for letting his prisoners go. A while later, Rocket decided to face his past once and for all by confronting the High Evolutionary and the Guardians fought the evil scientist once and for all, where Gamora ripped off his prosthetic face mask. However, the High Evolutionary managed to survive, but was imprisoned on Knowwhere for his actions.

Marvel Animation

Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

The High Evolutionary belongs to a possible future in which a gamma meteor struck on the Earth and forced humanity to regress into a primitive state, leading the Evolutionary to arise and turn all humans into Animal Men. However, when the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. accidentally time travel to that future and face the High Evolutionary, they turn him into a baby and return to the present day to avert the disaster that created the Evolutionary's dark future.

Guardians of the Galaxy

The High Evolutionary's ship is infiltrated by Gamora and Nebula, who intend to rewarm the realm within the sarcophagus they have been both trapped in, coming across him when the Evolutionary tries to experiment on Yondu Udonta.

The High Evolutionary later returns when Rocket Raccoon and Adam Warlock travel to Halfworld in hopes to re-evolving the former's family, but are accidentally absorbed by their gem, which the Evolutionary intends to use for his experiments.
