James Eugene "Jim" Carrey is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, author, artist, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his various film roles, such as Stanley Ipkiss/The Mask in the 1994 comedy film The Mask, the titular character of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and its 1995 sequel, Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber and its 2014 sequel, The Riddler/Edward Nygma in Batman Forever, the titular character of The Cable Guy, Fletcher Reede in Liar Liar, Truman Burbank in The Truman Show, the titular character of the 2000 live-action adaptation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Count Olaf, the main antagonist of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, the titular character of Blue Sky's 2008 adaptation of Horton Hears a Who!, and Thomas Popper, Jr. in Mr. Popper's Penguins. He also portrayed Dr. Ivo Robotnik in the 2020 Paramount Pictures film Sonic the Hedgehog along with its 2022 and 2024 sequels.
For Disney, he voiced Ebenezer Scrooge in all of his various forms, as well as all three ghosts in the 2009 Robert Zemeckis adaptation of A Christmas Carol, while also providing motion capture. He also portrayed an adult Joe Wenteworth in the 1998 Hollywood Pictures film Simon Birch.

- Carrey was originally considered for the voice role of Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story, along with the late Paul Newman (who did Doc Hudson in Cars and Cars 3) as Sheriff Woody. However, Tim Allen was cast in the end.[1]
- He was also originally considered to voice Flik in A Bug's Life before the role was eventually given to Dave Foley.[citation needed]
- Carrey was also the favorite choice for the role of Loki Laufeyson in Thor, but Tom Hiddleston, one of the actors who originally auditioned for the role of Thor, was cast instead.[2]
- He was also originally offered the voice role of Michael "Goob" Yagoobian in Disney's Meet the Robinsons, but turned it down to star in the 2007 thriller film The Number 23. However, Stephen J. Anderson was cast in the end.[3]
- He was also once considered to voice Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy along with Sharlto Copley, David Tennant, Michael Rooker, and H. Jon Benjamin, but Bradley Cooper was cast in the end.[citation needed]
- Carrey and most Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls film props were featured in Disney MGM Studios' Studio Backlot Tour in 1995.
- He lost a chunk of his front tooth in a childhood biking accident. He usually wears a cap over it, but he takes it off for his role as Lloyd Christmas in the Dumb and Dumber films because it fit the character so perfectly.[citation needed]
- He was also considered for the role of Kilgrave in Jessica Jones. However, the part went to David Tennant instead.
- He was the first choice for the role of Jack Frost in The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause but was considered too tall for it and the part later went to Martin Short instead.
