"Lahaina" is a 1973 song originally performed by Loggins & Messina included on their album Full Sail. In Disney media, it was included in the Lilo & Stitch-inspired album, Lilo & Stitch: Island Favorites, performed by The Volcanos, albeit with alternate lyrics from the original version to make the song family-friendly.
Lyrics
I was sitting at a table in an open cafe,
Chewing on a piece of gum
When I asked my waiter for the time of day
He said, "Look out, there's a centipede coming your way"
In Lahaina, the sugarcane grow
In Lahaina, the living is slow
In Lahaina, the mangoes are sweet
But the centipede, he crawls all over your feet
I was lying by the water in the morning sun
Shaded by a coconut tree
When I turned around, it was all I could see
There was a great big centipede staring at me
In Lahaina, the sugarcane grow
In Lahaina, the living is slow
In Lahaina, the mangoes are sweet
But the centipede, he crawls all over your feet
I had only just a second to decide what to do
While looking at his poisonous fangs
When I said, "I thought it was a beautiful day"
He said, "Look out, Mister, I think you're pushing my leg!"
In Lahaina, the sugarcane grow
In Lahaina, the living is slow
In Lahaina, the mangoes are sweet
But the centipede, he crawls all over your feet
Trivia
- In the original lyrics for "Lahaina", the first lines from the song "I was sitting at a table on an open bay, waiting for a drink of rum" was changed to "I was sitting at a table in an open cafe, chewing on a piece of gum" for the Lilo & Stitch: Island Favorites album, due to the first line from the original verse of the song containing references to alcohol. This was done to make the song more family-friendly.
