Mickey Tries to Cook is a short from Mickey Mouse Works, later featured in the House of Mouse episode "Goofy's Menu Magic". It stars Mickey Mouse and featuring Pluto, Minnie Mouse, and José Carioca.
Plot
When Mickey thinks Minnie has fallen for a guy who can cook, he tries to make a fancy dinner to win her back, with disastrous results.
Synopsis
Mickey, Minnie and Pluto go out for a picnic, Mickey gives Pluto a Sandwich with cheese, cheese, ham and tomato and cheese and it was given to Pluto to start, then another was given to Minnie, but he rejects it with easily when he pulls it towards Pluto's mouth, when Mickey is about to eat his Sandwich, he sees Minnie with a furious face reflected in her face, Mickey asks Minnie if she didn't like the Sandwich, but Minnie tells him that sometimes the girls get tired of eating Ham, Tomato and Cheese and Cheese Sandwiches, and reluctantly tells him that he would like a fancy dinner, leaving Mickey with few words along with Pluto.
The next day, in a supermarket, Mickey and Pluto go shopping while they see a cheese stall, he suddenly hears Minnie's laugh and sees her on the other side with José Carioca telling her that she will prepare a romantic Brazilian banquet for him, Mickey surprised. He tells Pluto that he can't get another new boyfriend and decides to put things in order so he can cook and get his girl back.
In his house, Mickey finds a recipe book entitled "How to prepare a sophisticated dinner so that his girlfriend leaves her new boyfriend" and then he gets down to work, as Mickey cooked, things became less difficult due to that the front fan would flip the page so Mickey confuses what follows from the recipe. Once finished, Mickey gets ready and put all the food in a flat dish to bake the food, when putting it in the microwave and when withdrawing, Pluto notices that the food is slowly inflating and that in a few seconds, it will explode, Pluto alerts Mickey to warn him about the danger he was in, but by then, it was too late.
While Minnie crosses towards Mickey's house, she sees in a stare of Shock how the house fell face down to the ground, making everything bounce, inside the house, Mickey comes out of the fridge along with Pluto for the terrible disaster and everything to get Minnie back, Then, Minnie comes to see Mickey and when she sees the disaster she asks him what had happened, to avoid discovering the truth, Mickey lies to Minnie that Pluto was chasing a bird, but that it wasn't a bird, but that it was a stick of dynamite, but he is wrong and he says that it was a pack of wolves and he is wrong again that it was hippopotamuses and they had often scared him, Minnie looks at him bitterly and Mickey regrets for lying to him, he told him that he had tried to prepare a sophisticated dinner for him, but things went wrong a little, then she assumed that she should give up now that she had another boyfriend who knew how to cook apparently and that she didn't need him anymore or because she hates ham tomato, cheese and cheese sandwiches.
When Minnie asks Mickey to wait a minute, Mickey just replies in a bad attitude that he should tell her boyfriend the gourmet, but Minnie tells Mickey, telling him that José Carioca wasn't her boyfriend, but that he was an old friend of Donald and that he is a great gourmet and told him that he had asked him to prepare a sophisticated dinner as a surprise for Mickey, José Carioca, who was already present, tells them both that it would be a pleasure.
Later that night, Minnie tells Mickey that there is nothing like a sophisticated dinner, when José Carioca arrives, he tells them that he had prepared a Sandwich with cheese, cheese, ham, tomato and cheese and uncovers revealing that it was the same sandwich, to Minnie's dismay, but also Mickey's pride, after José Carioca tells him everything translated, Minnie is extremely upset since it was the worst than the previous one and just scowls as Mickey happily says that it is his favorite.

- Donald Duck is mentioned only by Minnie near the end of the short as whom José Carioca is friends with, but isn't seen or heard.
- This is one of seven Mickey Mouse Works shorts to be animated in traditional cel animation.
- This marks several early installment differences between José Carioca and later depictions of him in the Mouse Works franchise.
- This also marks the first time José was seen without Donald.
- Rob Paulsen doesn't voice José Carioca, instead he is voiced by Denis Martell, though he would be voiced by other voice actors later on such as Eric Bauza on Legend of the Three Caballeros and Bernardo de Paula on DuckTales (2017).
- This is the only Mouse Works short where José Carioca is shown in cel-animated form.
