Randall's Friends

"Randall's Friends" is the second segment of the fortieth episode of Recess.

Synopsis

Randall gets the gang to act as his friends after lying to his father about his friendships. His father later visits in honor of Randall's birthday.

Plot

Randall's birthday comes up and his father Leonard tells him that he will be preparing a birthday party at the school and that he will invite his friends. Randall lies and tells him that he will do so, as he does not have any friends. The next day, Randall asks the Recess Gang to pretend to be his friends, at least for one day. They refuse, but he blackmails them with a legitimate looking, or rather forged, letter stating that T.J. was the one who threw Principal Prickly's sandals on the roof. The Gang agrees and Randall tosses the note away in the trash.

A bounce house is rented and cupcakes are served with the Recess Gang actually enjoying themselves. That is, until Leonard reveals some of the things that Randall said about them, implying that he has had a major influence in their abilities, or in Spinelli's case that she was his girlfriend. Angered, they confront Randall, but Miss Finster finds the trashed note and takes T.J. away. Randall admitting to the forged letter is heard by Leonard who tattles on his own son. Randall admits to blackmailing the Gang and Miss Finster agrees to let T.J. go. Randall apologizes to lying to his father about having friends, but he congratulates him as he believes that they are destined to be alone.

Trivia

  • This episode reveals that Randall has a crush on Spinelli.
  • Miss Finster stated Randall had a flawless record, despite the food fight he caused in "Tattletale Heart". It is possible that this episode takes place before the former.
  • It is implied that Leonard Weems was Miss Finster’s assistant when he was Randall's age because he told her what he and the gang did.
