"The Grand Gesture" is the second segment of the thirty-sixth episode of the Disney Channel animated series The Ghost and Molly McGee.
Synopsis
June and Darryl accidentally transform Scratch’s ectoplasm into a living being.
Plot
Molly, Libby, and Scratch are watching a romance film when Libby mentions how the characters in the movie remind her of the closeness with Molly and Ollie. Molly admits that she and Ollie have not yet declared their official relationship and plans to invite Ollie to a diner (situating him in such a way where he looks good in the moonlight) to ask to be her boyfriend, but Libby and Scratch are unimpressed with her plans and tell her that she needs to go big and make a grand gesture like the characters in the romance film. Darryl suddenly appears and asks Scratch for some of his ectoplasm in exchange for a sandwich, something which he does unquestionably.
Darryl takes the piece of ectoplasm to June who plans to study it and learn its properties. Darryl plays with a piece of it and accidentally knocks some chemicals onto the small piece, causing it to turn green and become sentient. Darryl and June take to "Junior" like a child and learn that it feeds off of electricity, which they quickly learn is bad news when it grows in size and doesn't obey them. Molly is convinced to declare her love to Ollie in a big way, first by using poetry and music, and later by inviting him into the woods for a message. Both are ruined due to circumstances, partially from Scratch and Libby (and a woodpecker), and Molly is left feeling miserable up until the time of the dinner date.
Molly finally decides to come out and tell Ollie her feelings for him, only to get interrupted by an embiggened version of Junior who is rampaging through the city absorbing electricity. Molly, Ollie, Darryl, and June witness Junior expand and explode, shrinking down to his small form and now speaking perfect English. He thanks his "parents" for looking after him before parting with the knowledge that gestures do not need to be big. Junior ascends to another plane of existence as Darryl and June share a tearful goodbye to him. Molly finally tells Ollie that she wants to be his girlfriend and he reciprocates. They hold hands which sends a spark through town, turning the power back on.
