"The Helper" is an episode of Wander Over Yonder.

Synopsis

Wander's usual job at helping others is suddenly put on hold when everyone he runs into doesn't need his help. As a result, he starts panicking and constantly tries to find someone in need.

Plot

Wander and Sylvia are traveling through the desert when the former spots a motorist in the distance changing his tire. With the inclination to help, Wander rushes over to offer his assistance, only for the motorist to complete his task and be on his way. Sylvia informs Wander that not everyone needs his help, but Wander sees a hitchhiker and runs over to help him. However, the man tells Wander that he was simply giving him a thumbs up on his appearance and that his ride, the motorist, is already there to take him. Wander sees a bird fall from his nest and tries to grab him, but the bird flies away.

Sylvia once again tells Wander that not everyone needs help and suggests going to the nearby town to explore, but Wander instead sees it as an opportunity to help people. Upon arriving in town, Wander proceeds to go about looking for someone to help, but the town already appears to be filled with proper conveniences for people. Wander becomes more demoralized while Sylvia enjoys all the things the town has to offer. Wander sees a woman in a burning building and runs over to help her, only to learn that it is for a movie being filmed. He sees a camera catch fire and puts it out, only to learn that that itself is part of the movie being filmed about making a movie. Tired and frustrated, Wander runs and hides and Sylvia decides to take him out to eat.

At a diner, Wander and Sylvia eat triple pickle cream pie and relax at the thought that the town at least will not get attacked by Lord Hater. Right at that moment, Lord Hater's ship arrives and he and his Watchdogs disembark and approach the diner. Wander goes to warn the cashier and the manager of Lord Hater, but it turns out that Hater came simply to order food; declaring that the restaurant serves the best triple pickle cream pie he has ever tasted. After he leaves, Wander frantically begins searching for anyone who needs his help and becomes delusional. Sylvia steps in and whispers something to the manager.

Everyone in town finally come together to ask Wander for help with one thing. They need him to "run someone out of town" and hold a mirror up to him. Wander realizes that that person is him and he begins to take the task seriously. He puts on a feux stand off and captures himself to run out of town. Everyone weakly applauds his actions as Wander hops aboard Sylvia and leaves to continue their travels.

• In the diner, Sylvia's tail isn't there when she is sitting,
• The pie in the diner Wander is eating "disappears" when Hater lands his ship. It later reappears fully intact, even though Wander did eat some of it earlier.
• In the part when Wander is stating all the directions. Wander's hand actually placed in south while he's saying the opposite.
• When Wander said "So you not in of a ride" his left hand has three fingers.
• When Wander crashes and says "I only wanted to help", he only has one line on his mid section, he should have three.

Trivia

• Frivolity Meals are a pun on the Happy Meal at McDonald's. The same restaurant also serves pies, but usually in apple.
• This is the first time where Wander seems to genuinely see Lord Hater as a negative threat. Prior, he either seemed oblivious or downplay him.
