"When the Spirit Moves You" is the sixth episode of Bonkers, though it is actually the 56th in chronological order.
Synopsis
Bonkers and Miranda get a toon ghost from the 1930s named Dopey to leave the condemned house that it is haunting, but now it is haunting the police station. With the aid of Ludwig Von Drake, can they get the ghost to leave or will the police station be forever haunted?
Trivia
- This episode marks one of the few times Leonard Kanifky appears in a Miranda-led episode.
- Dopey and the other ghosts resembles the Lonesome Ghosts.
- The ghost-hunting spoofs Ghostbusters, complete with Bonkers, Miranda, Sgt. Frank Grating, and Ludwig von Drake wearing similar matching outfits.
- Dopey disguising as Bonkers to pull the mirror routine on the real Bonkers in the haunted house is reminiscent of a scene in Duck Soup (1933) when Harpo Marx disguises as Groucho and confronts the real Groucho Marx in a doorway. Like Groucho and Harpo, Bonkers even does a dance routine, but unlike the Marx brothers, his impostor does not follow along.
- It's also similar to an old Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episode Never Ape an Ape Man, where the titular simian villain disguises himself in a rubber Scooby-Doo mask to pull the mirror routine on the real Scooby. But while Bonkers falls for the impersonation, Scooby notices something off and accuses his "reflection" of being a phony.
- Ludwig von Drake mentions The Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz.
- Ludwig von Drake later mentions The Twilight Zone.
